My copy arrived today and I'm watching it now. Pretty good transfer. There's some slight "mosquito noise" like on some earlier Paramount titles (Tommy Boy comes to mind) but it's nowhere near as problematic as those transfers.

THAT has been happening A LOT to me lately. Wal-Mart and Target and Best Buy don't have what I want...so I buy it from Amazon or from Bull Moose...and then I will find what I ordered in one of the aforementioned stores WHILE MY ORDER IS IN TRANSIT....

The transfer isn't very good...but that's okay. I'm glad to finally have it on Blu-ray. The video quality? 6/10.

I'd say 6/10, too....it's clearly the same master as the DVD and HD TV showings. Very clean, but nothing special. Glad to have it on blu-ray.

Rewatched this recently and the late, great JT Walsh gives one of the more underrated supporting performances of the 90s as scumbag big money booster Happy Kuykendahl (perfect character name as well). He and Nolte both knock it out of the park. This film is no masterpiece, but a damn fine entry in the sports film canon.

My head registers this as a Ron Shelton film even though he didn't actually direct it.😄

It's too bad that the reviewer doesn't give the rest of the cast more credit... Walsh and McDonnell are both good here.

I usually try to ignore the story reviews from "pro" reviewers. A lot of them just simply will not give any respect to certain genres and I often find myself enjoying movies that get 1 and 2 star reviews a lot more than supposed 5 star ones from an entertainment perspective. Not everything has to be film thesis level. Kind of reminds me of when I took a literature class in college and someone asked the professor what kind of movies he watches in his free time, and he said something to degree of, "it may surprise you, but I love the big blockbuster movies where I can just relax and have a good time/not have to give it too much thought."

Movie reviews are like food reviews, imagine only eating what someone else who hates most food recommends! I only read technical reviews, and half the time they are pointless also because of the "shill to pay the bills" mentality.

So if we get Blue Chips does that mean "The Air Up There" isn't far behind? I need all the sports films from back in the day.

I just saw on Amazon Video they have Blue Chips in 4K UHD. Anyone check that out? Wonder if it's just an upscale of this release they're calling 4K.
