Had to turn that off!! No way I could use this site any longer if forced to see those huge banners and popups all over the place!

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to turn them off!

I was cool for a couple of weeks. Leaderboard ads don't really bother me. But I started getting pop-up videos and ads on top of the actual site content this morning. Makes it a pretty horrible user experience. Had to turn them off.

THANK YOU, bluray.com for making that an option!

The pop-ups are infuriating. No point closing them down every time as they just reappear everytime page changes.
I'm glad they could be turned off, or I'd not be visiting here anymore.

How do I turn them off? I looked in the User CP but found nothing about Ads.

The ads are surprisingly intrusive for a site that's not about producing clickbait articles. If I hadn't been able to turn them off, I might've started looking for a different solution for cataloging my collection.

"Site preferences" in the top right corner

"Third Party Sites" Category

Uncheck "Display advertising"

I often browse the site without signing in and there is no way to get rid of the ads without signing in. If they don't get rid of the highly intrusive advertising then I will stop using the site.

Wow, I never had any intrusive pop-up ads on this site until today (looks like others had the same thing today). And boy were they annoying...thankfully a quick unchecking of those two advertising boxes in the Site Preferences page got rid of that crap. I've been visiting this site regularly for a little over a decade and not being able to disable those would have made this site unusably bad. All back to normal though now, thankfully, lol.

I still find it very strange that the ads popped up for me this morning, since I had the boxes unhecked before it happened.

I use Adblock yet this video ad keeps popping up on the corner of every page. It's annoying.

You just made this site my most annoying site to visit. I do have them off and they still pop up. Ugh.

I will be spending less time here as a result.

Wow that James Bond video pop up on every page is unacceptable, sorry, I would understand something like that when one visits the home page, I understand generating income is a necessity. But on every page, a popup that covers some of the content is just going to drive users like me away. If the popup is going to be on every page, find a place where it does not block content, please. Do you really think users want to see the same video over and over, everytime they click on a post or article. I sure don't.

Wow! I’m shocked any website would consider these adds in their current form acceptable. Banner adds are annoying but tolerable. These literally block the content you’re trying to view and make the site unbearable. I’ve turned them off but you guys should really figure this out because if I didn’t know that was an option I’d simply stop visiting here.

As others have said, these ads were way too intrusive. First seeing them today. I'm glad there's an option to turn them off.

I buy plenty of movies through the links here, so I don't feel bad about turning off these horribly desperate ads.

I'd much rather a "site patron" type subscription model with little perks. Like no bleeding ads everywhere.
Yeah Idk how devs could be excited about that level of intrusive advertising its not just side/ bottom its bottom and off in the corner with a count down to remove, and the bottom advertisement isn't just the whole bottom it also blurs out reading, both require interaction to view threads...

I could see that directly impacting new signups and readers who just stop by that might join... I went out of my way to find this thread to see if there was a way to stop it, never seen an add setup where taking up 30%+ of the screen was a good thing lol

Just came in to also comment about the ads. I definitely didn't mind the ads you used to use and understand that the site does need income, but the new ads are horribly intrusive. I've actually never experienced a site that I regularly use which has such a horrible ad experience. Very happy that there is an option to turn them off in the settings.

If the site reverts to the old ad system, I will be happy to turn them on again to support the site.

For an even worse experience, open an article on bleepingcomputer.com.
As you read, it continues to insert ads inside the article. I was just there this morning.
