The version that is shown is clearly not a US version of the set, so where is it from?

It’s the UK set, the US set is pretty much the same thing minus ratings labels.

Here's the US version. The one posted previously is the same set, but released in the UK.

Super excited about this set finally seeing the light of day, but have to admit finding the extras disappointingly light. (And just to pile on a few more sour grapes, also not particularly happy with the box art or the situation with the new restorations.)

Other than the fact that it doesn't appear that the original 3 films are each getting their own disc (???), I'm super psyched for this release. The Daimajin trilogy and the original Yokai trilogy are among my favorite vintage genre films, and I didn't think it was likely that they would receive such lovingly-produced releases as these in North America. Thanks, Arrow!

[It sucks that they are not getting all of the new restorations from Kadokawa, but it's not Arrow's fault, and I'd much rather have this than no release at all!]

Saw a comment somewhere that Spook Warfare didn't have another HD transfer to use.

So in other words, if it wasn't for Kadokawa's 4K restoration, we might have been stuck with a SD transfer for it.

As for why they wouldn't just let them use all the 4K transfers... reasons that defy explanation I guess.

By the way, I don't know if you saw my posts about the Daimajin set but it's back in stock at Arrow's official website and at Zavvi US. Now would be a good time to order it.
I know, but I've already paid for my Amazon order with gift card a few weeks ago and really do not want to take another hit on my bank so soon. Amazon likely received the largest allotment for these, and my pre-order does say it's coming Aug 3rd. I feel safe, just not sure. But this is the main reason I decided to go with Diabolik for Yokai. I don't want to keep pushing my luck.

I wonder what the next Tokusatsu will be that Arrow releases. It seems like they are going through nearly all of the ones Daei/Kadokawa has.

My guess is that Kadokawa is like Toho in where they want their new transfers released by them first to prevent reverse importing or something. If Spook Warfare only had an SD transfer previously then Arrow probably did some pursuading so they could get all three films in true HD.

There's still some Daiei left - Whale God and The Demon of Mount Oe come to mind.

But now that Kadokawa are seemingly being more...difficult, they might as well start working with Toho.

Looking at the price compared to Daimajin, looks like the Miike film is essentially free though? So that's good in my books.

The Oiwa Phantom (AKA Curse of the Ghost) (1969)
The Haunted Castle (1969)
The Masseur's Curse (1970)

Several of those were shown at the Yokai Film Festival this month so I think those would be pretty likely choices for Arrow. Hard to say what materials and transfers would be available for the others.
I'm still looking for non-Daiei toku/sci-fi films in Kadokawa's library. There's Time Slip.

I'd like Arrow to go after some Toei toku too. The Magic Serpent would be cool.

It would be a strange move considering they let Arrow do the world premier Blu-ray releases for Invisible Man Appears/Human Fly and Snake Girl and the Silver Haired Witch. But Kadokawa is releasing the new 4K transfers of Daimajin and Yokai Monsters themselves this Fall so I suppose that could be their reasoning for not wanting Arrow to have their hands on it first. If so then it's pretty annoying that we missed out just because of timing.

I would rather have waited 6 months, a year, heck, probably even two, if that was the compromise that had to be made. These are likely to be the final English-friendly home video releases of these films and it is indeed a shame that most of the transfers will be out of date at time of release.

Well Virus is 100% Kadokawa , as I see you have it listed as a Daei title. There is Legend of the 8 Samurai which is fantasy film, but it does have a few monsters in it, and people with powers. The Little Girl who Conquered Time is another sci-fi film. You already have Time Slip (which I think is coming), but can't think of any major ones off the top of my head.

Oh yeah, I added Virus because I was going to include Kadokawa titles but gave up when I couldn't find a definitive list. I'll remove it.

I actually just added a few more Daiei titles. There was this magazine subscription in 2016 that included a DVD for Daiei tokusatsu movies. Some of them were incredible hard to find info for. I think my list should be pretty complete now though.

Arrow of all companies does some rather limited releases though, and honestly getting true 4K releases of these would be great and it is a format they release on. Considering that limited edition sets for both Gamera and Daimajin are selling out, I could see them doing new limited edition sets for both series on 4K in the future. With when Daimajin and Yokai are debuting in Japan my suspicion is we’d be looking at Q4 2024 before we’d possibly see such a release though, at least with anime anyways I know 3 years is pretty standard between a new transfer in Japan seeing release elsewhere.

Question

Spook Warfare is easily my favorite. I'm glad it's the one getting a 4K transfer. But wouldn't it make more sense if that one got it's own disc? I know they're presented in release order (like it matters), but it seems like that one should be given room to breathe on its own disc for maximum awesomeness.

Disc 1 is 100 Monsters and a brand new documentary, plus some trailers. Disc 2 is Spook Warfare and Along with Ghosts, plus some trailers. I guess it would be wasteful to give two barebones movies their own disc each.

It looks like all of the extras from Tokyo Shock's 2-disc release of Great Yokai War are included. Only thing new seems to be the commentary.
