Confirming region B locked. Includes a complete raw transfer of the SD workprint, the theatrical trailer in SD and other extras. Unfortunately, the movie audio is only offered in DTS HD-MA 2.0 and not 5.1 from the previous UK BD

iirc the 5.1 remix was of lower quality than the 2.0 Dolby Surround mix on UK BD.

The overall fidelity is much worse on the 5.1 compared to the 2.0 track (very muffled). Also, it sounds like it's a re-channeling of the un-matrixed 2.0 track instead of a legit remix from original stems.

Thanks for confirming. Will be looking to get a region free player. I have zero faith that BV will ever release this on Region A in the states.

Disney owning it would explain why Umbrella was compelled to lock this (even though their DVD was region free, but PAL/NTSC differences would have made that one useless to most people in the US anyway).

Hey, if you can test for region coding, please update on the site.

Damn, this disc looks fantastic. Doesn’t seem to be any grain management or nasty sharpening going on. Hilarious that this movie of all things gets a transfer that wouldn’t look out of place on a criterion disc.

Just curious, is the workprint on this disc basically the same as the "Morton Jankel Cut" SMBMovie.com released a few months ago?

No, the smb workprint had some restoration work done, this is the raw NTSC VHS transfer encoded in 60fps.

So it looks worse on the disc then?

It's more consistent, but yes - 'worse' is accurate

Second Sight disc looks to have better encoding. Tad bit sharper and defined. I had never had an issue with the 5.1 track. So really the only reason to get this is the workprint...which...I've lived without for nearly 30 years, so I imagine I can get another 30 without having seen it.

Decided to take the chance on it being region free and over the weekend bought this from Blowitoutofhere on ebay. Surprised at how fast it arrived. I have a region free player, but set it to Region A to check the disc out. Can confirm it played just fine. Excited about this as my young nephew recently discovered this movie and has become obsessed with it. He’s been stuck with the old dvd that looks pretty rough, so this being in HD and the bonus content will be a huge deal for him!
