Random question, but does anyone happen to know if the 'Presents' line tends to be region locked?
The UK edition of this also went OOP long ago and commands silly money but I'm restricted to region B and so that's been my only option so far. If there's a better transfer that will work in my setup then much joy will abound.

Paramount tends to region lock only if it's a film they don't have worldwide rights ("Bugsy Malone", "Popeye", and "Rat Race" to name a few). "Harold and Maude" should be region free as Paramount owns it worldwide.

I think most of them have been region free, if not all. With the Eureka release going OOP, I think it's a safe bet.

This thread reminded me that Harold and Maude was the first Criterion blu-ray I ever bought, back in 2012. (I now own approximately 247 Criterion releases. Whoa.) I'll wait to see reviews before deciding whether to double dip on this or not.

I'm set with the Criterion release. I understand this upcoming release may have better PQ but won't purchase this movie again unless it's on UHD.

Looks to be a good option for those that didn't buy the CC.

Great film. I'm not sure if I'd upgrade from MOC Blu-ray myself as that still looks pretty good, but I'm glad it's coming back in print for those who missed on the previous versions.

You can see the sign being set up in the finished film, but you never see what it says.

You can see it at 2:19

Spoiler warning, DO NOT WATCH THIS TRAILER if you have not seen the film. Like many Paramount trailers of the 1970s, it shows the ENTIRE film, including the ending.

I kept my DVD for the trailers too; the only disc I can think of where I have to have the trailers. Ones that I was surprised was left off the Criterion Blu-ray.

What would make me have to get this would be if they included deleted scenes, like those that snippets of were in the trailers. That would be really great to see what was left out that almost made it.

4K remaster, original audio tracks restored and remastered, trailers and commentary by superfan Cameron Crowe are more than enough for me.

How can an “original audio track” be “remastered”?

This is the vague wording from the press release:

"In addition, the soundtrack was completely remixed using recently discovered tracks to add clarity and depth."

I was typing quickly, I mean remixed, not remastered.

Well…. Point still stands. A remix is not the original track, by definition.

Fair enough, but they're using the original audio elements, so it's not one of those modern remixes with new foley, etc.

I hope there's a review of this REAL soon, to let those of us who have the Criterion know how this came out (as least from one opinion).
I worry about the remix of the music; another question is, how much of an improvement on the picture quality, or is it possibly worse, as that sometimes happens?
Wishing for a review before next Tuesday...

My guess is it will be a similar improvement to Nashville. But I'm curious as well. I have the Masters of Cinema edition which is solid.

Hmm, I don't know first hand how Nashville looks, though I checked now and saw some people didn't like skin tones, the colors being off and such, and that it looks soft, etc. (I have the Criterion)
I probably should wait til a review and if none before release date cancel my pre-order. I have the Criterion of Harold and Maude which is just fine.

Does anyone know if there will be a 4k version available on iTunes on Tuesday? It seems like Paramount usually does that with their “Paramount Presents” line. Also, being that digital 4k isn’t always that great, would you prefer the blu-ray over it?

I REALLY wish they’d just release a UHD, this is on my top 5 of all time list!
