I think Will Smith did a good job with acting on this one but I am not sure if it's Oscar Worthy but the movie was so much better than Power of the Dog lol.

If this was staged then he wouldn't have dropped two very loud F bombs in front of the Hollywood elite and millions of people around the world. Then you have to ask who benefits? Will certainly doesn't. He looks like a cuck at best or at worst like a cuck bully. His reaction was never about the joke. I've said this elsewhere but there is a backstory behind this which gives you some idea where this anger really came from. This was not about the joke.

I think that is a fair reaction to watching an entitled Hollywood star physically assault someone and more or less get away with it. As for the movie, it is nice that a black man's story is told in a balanced manner but this isn't the kind of movie I buy on 4K. So I'm not bothered either way.

You'll have to buy three. I even removed it from HBO Max queue because his behavior has tainted the movie in my eyes. I wouldn't be able to watch him without being reminded of his open display of violence on the stage.

Then surely you will have to never watch any movie with any actor that ever did anything morally questionable......

Oh I'm so glad The Slap stuff has moved over here since they closed The Academy Awards thread and the new Academy Thread says no slap talk.

For your enjoyment:
https://nypost.com/2022/03/31/new-vi...ed-chris-rock/

AND I still enjoyed King Richard but I'm not going to buy it because it's a one time watch for me and I don't need it in my collection like I need Spider-Man.

Still keeping my Will Smith movies though like Enemy Of The State, I, Robot, I Am Legend

AND I'm on Team Chris Rock all the way

Don't believe in boycotts either

Disagree 100%.

Here’s the thing: I’ve never actually been in a fight. I went through high school (over three decades ago) with just three friends to get me through. To say I was shy was an understatement. Deeply introverted would describe me. For whatever reason, certain low-lifers at my school didn’t like it that I never said anything, and twice, for no reason at all, I got the shit kicked out of me by multiple people on my way home. For right or wrong, I didn’t fight back. I literally just lay there on the ground and got kicked and punched until I was black and blue. (To this day I have terrible floaters in my eyes caused from the head trauma).

That was then. Today, I simply won’t allow anyone to put a hand on me for any reason. Today I know exactly what to do if a person approaches me with the intent to strike my face or body - and it isn’t pleasant.

What Chris Rock did… just stand there and take it… is NOT what I would do today. If Will Smith came at me like that, the swing would’ve resulted in me smashing his arm upwards and then a fist going straight into the lower part of his neck. It’s pretty much the law everywhere that if someone attempts to strike you the way Will Smith did to Chris Rock you’re legally entitled to defend yourself.

Had Chris Rock so desired, he could have smashed Will Smith’s face in right on live television, and he would have had the legal right to do so. (At least then Will Smith wouldn’t have returned to his seat with that cheeky little smile on his face.)

There’s ‘morally questionable’… and then there’s straight up violence. What Will Smith did wasn’t morally questionable, it was literally a criminal act, and I seriously wish that Chris Rock had either a) defended himself, by hitting back, or b) done the right thing and pressed charges.

Preferably both.

You think I’m going to sit down and watch this ****ing movie now?

Chris Rock handled the situation perfectly, the worst thing he could have done is retaliated in any physical (or verbal) way.

Does the situation change for you if Will Smith’s wedding ring ‘accidentally’ takes out Chris Rock’s eye? How about if that blow ‘accidentally’ strikes Chris Rock on his temple and causes permanent brain damage?

Can’t happen, you say?

Both of those things happened to people I met when taking classes in self-defence. Like myself, both those people had been living for years with the pain of having allowed others to hit them. When you’ve allowed someone to hit you, there’s a good chance that the anger will build and build over the years. You’ll be angry at the person or people who hit you - but you’ll be even angrier with yourself for having stood there with a dumb look on your face and just allowed someone to smack you.

I encourage everyone who hasn’t done so to take lessons in self defence. If you know how to defend yourself then when that fist comes flying towards your face you’ll at least have a fighting chance, and instead of taking the blow, you’ll deflect it and give that other person exactly what they deserve.

I hope the academy strips Will Smith of his Oscar and I hope that Chris Rock re-thinks his position and files charges. You can’t allow thugs to get away with violence. You have to press charges.

As for just standing there and taking the hit and saying nothing… we’ll I can only say that Chris should be happy he doesn’t have floaters in his eyes like I do… or a missing eyeball… or any of a dozen injuries that can happen even from the most seemingly ‘harmless’ of hits to the head.

Chris Rock did everything wrong. He should have reacted in self-defence and he should have made it crystal clear, using strong language, that what Smith did was unacceptable.

Instead, we had to endure the ****ing audience applauding Will Smith like he was some kind of hero. Everything that happened on that stage was just so ****ing wrong.

Will wasn't wearing his ring, and various witnesses said after the fact that Chris didn't have a mark on his face. Also you bring up an excellent point about our natural impulse to defend ourselves, which would kick in if you see a slap telegraphed that badly.

The whole thing is about as real as WWE. I know that's not a popular opinion here but I don't care. The more that comes out the more I'm convinced this is the case

As for the film, meh. It got Will his coveted Oscar so I guess it accomplished what it set out to do

But it didn't, so it doesn't matter what "could have" happened. Stop making that your argument to justify your outrage.

and by saying "Chris did everything wrong" you don't even know what you're talking about. First, you're advocating MORE violence, the same violence you seemingly condemn. You also don't even know a thing about Chris, who has a disability called NVLD which is similar to Aspergers, which is one reason he didn't lash back out and satiate your ridiculous need for more violence.

Knowledge is power. Kinda makes all your comments looks a little foolish, huh? When you actually know all the facts?

There's a whole bunch of reasons why that is extremely unlikely. But the main one is that Will Smith was fine with the joke until he saw his wife's reaction. Are you saying that he forgot his lines?. He is fighting the ghost of a (dead) man his wife really loves. Not only did she publicly say this, but she also published a letter from her daughter wishing that the other man was her dad. This is a perfect example of the Bill Burr instigation joke and Will Smith was an idiot to let his wife do that to him.

Chris did do the right thing, he also would have done the right thing had he Goldberg speared that emasculated Little Willie as he was smirking and correcting his tux while strolling back to his seat after assaulting him in front of the entire planet over a mid ass joke. Will Smith is a certified biatch, him and his entire weirdo ass family can take a hike.

He actually did everything right. He is smart enough to know that if he reacted then all the world sees is two black men being uncivilised amongst the mostly white royalty. He even stopped himself from reacting verbally which I'm not sure I could have done. Bottom line is that he did himself and black men a huge favor.

If anything this would support my position. He laughed so clearly it didn't bother him enough for him to completely lose control

I totally get your understandable distrust of Hollywood. They deserve it and then some. But again. What benefit does "Will Smith" get from this? Money? Fame? Status? Maybe he thought he proved to the world (and more importantly his wife) that he is some kind of tough guy? But if that was he was aiming to do (which does fit the backstory) then all he ended up proving is how weak he is.
