Well, if it's posted in a movie thread it will be moved or at the very least copied to the subtitles thread because such useful information needs to be collated for reference in a dedicated thread instead of being buried within movie threads where after a while nobody will be able to find it.

A good rule of thumb is that if the same conversation is being repeated across multiple threads, that subject needs its own thread.

Here's the link again for the subtitles thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=346482

This is a Chinese film I assume because in the few seconds I skipped through it, I saw one very inventive use of 3D I don't think I've seen before. That's pretty impressive and unlike Monster Hunter, it has medium strong 3D and was obviously made with 3D in mind.

Looking at the IMDB demo scores for this movie, it might be skewed towards younger viewers. The one younger viewer gave it 10/10, everyone else was around the 5/10 mark. As for the movie, I don't know if I saw the "monster" but it looks straight out of Monster's Inc lol.

Just so I can update the thread title, can anyone confirm if this is region B locked or region free?

No love for Monster Run? The 3d is pretty good, way better than Crouching Tiger or Monster Hunter. It looks as though the CG portions were natively rendered as these all come out strong, often jarringly so, particularly in the final battle when it cuts between full CG and converted footage and back again.

It doesn't quite have the polish of Hollywood, there were some wild floating windows early on and the image quality isn't the greatest, probably because Koch crammed separate 2d and 3d versions on the one disc.

Hopefully, sales are sufficient to keep Koch in the Chinese 3d game, they're the only window to the east left now that Hong Kong has dropped the ball.

Thanks for the review. I just received this item and trying to figure out how to watch it... looks like it's region 2 plus it has no English subtitles. Does anyone know if remux the subtitle that was posted here it syncs up?

I guess it's worth all this trouble if the 3D is done well though so I'll try to watch it this weekend.

It's confirmed as Region B locked (Region 2 is for DVDs) and apparently the English subs do sync up if you have the equipment and technical knowhow how to do it. Shame they weren't included on the disc.

Still waiting for it to arrive in the mail. It can take about a month after the release date, shipping from Germany to the USA.

The subs I found I had to put a -1150ms "delay" on them to match up. Probably not the same one posted here in that case, but just so if anyone has a sync issue.

Received my disc in the mail today. Besides being Region B-locked and having no English subtitles, it also lacks the original Mandarin audio track. It only includes Cantonese and German dubs. I am trying to "Frankenstein" a watchable version for myself and will report on the 3D at a later date.

No, unfortunately.

Netflix has incorrectly listed Cantonese as the film's original language, which may be the root cause of the German's mistake. I'm having difficulty finding a decent source for the Mandarin track.

I've gotten both from netflix, so I'll check which is right. I did notice they had it as Cantonese original too. IMDB show it Cantonese too. So the mouth movement is incorrect?

Yes, they are both wrong. On closer examination, you will see that mouths match up with Mandarin, even for lead actor Shawn Yue. It's a Chinese movie made for mainland China (where the box office money is). Therefore they would make it in Mandarin. Hong Kong movies are in Cantonese (now mostly limited to smaller, local productions unfortunately).

Yeah you are right, checked netflix. At least you can get a DD+ Mandarin track there. Like the original English track for the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon sequel

I'm not setup to take audio tracks from Netflix myself. Wish I could.

Watched Monster Run tonight. It was an ambitious, fun fantasy action movie--cute and colorful with likeable characters, particularly the hunter's shapeshifting origami/paper mâché sidekick, "Paper". The cinematography uses a lot of different colored lights or colored filters to create a rainbow world of monsters, visible only to people who see with their hearts, rather than their eyes. The CGI creature art was great although too limited. There weren't nearly enough monsters. The punk-PVC weapon design was unique, sort of like everything was built by paintball-loving preteens in a backyard. The story starts off great with a fantastic supermarket 3D set piece, bringing the lead characters together. Just enough familial backstory is given to bond them and arouse our sympathies. The villain's intentions aren't really motivated enough to drive the plot, however, and unfortunately, the film devolves into a nonsensical CGI "mirror-world" mess by the climax. It feels a little bit like they ran out of budget to finish the movie strong.

This is one of China's better 3D conversions. Scenes dominated by CGI, probably rendered natively, look superb with great 3D volume and roundness. Scenes dominated by live-action can be much flatter in comparison, like cutouts pushed back into the screen. All of the action sequences are given interesting 3D with lots of CGI particle pop-outs. The supermarket yeti fight was my favorite. I was impressed by all the intentional uses of CGI 3D. The stereo conversion was definitely not an afterthought and made the experience worthwhile.

Movie - 2.5/5
3D - 3/5

Regrettably, Koch Media's disc is region B-locked and requires a remux to add missing English subtitles and the original Mandarin audio track. I appreciate them releasing an exclusive new Chinese 3D movie and am happy to support their endeavor. However, this seems like enough of a failure to cost them purchases from the majority of our internet 3D fanclub.

Unbelievable they added a Cantonese dub, English dub, no original. As stupid as ALL of The Superdeep releases.

To be clear, there is not an English dub included--only Cantonese and German dubs. No English subtitles either--only German subs.
