yeah I saw that on Amazon.de....

I might Just Skip Season 9 if it's not gonna be True HD like the others..

Why do stupid SD on Blu-Ray on the final season....

Unless they can't get the original film elements

From what I remember only three episodes of that season have a surviving 35mm print. The others are in very poor quality 16mm duplicate prints. I assume they won't look any better on this new release than the DVD version.

Peculiar, one would think the older material would suffer that fate.
But yes, better than nothing.

My question re Season 9 is this - what are the state of the original negatives?

Universal restored the first 8 seasons from the original negatives, but they didn't restore season 9.

Call me a cynic, but I suspect they didn't restore Season 9 because they didn't realise The Men From Shiloh was The Virginian.

Universal didn't restore season 9 from the original negatives because apart from one episode there are none to restore. The original negatives have never been located and only 16mm prints exist in the archive. Maybe one day...

Default Did they look under M instead of V?

Thank you for your reply. My title is a glib comment, I know, but I hope these negatives still exist somewhere and can be found.

Technically just a repress, identical to first version. Filmjuwelen are releasing a bunch of titles in May-June that have been oop for a long time. Maybe different packaging/artwork this time around

Excuse me but are English subtitles included or only German subtitles in these blurays of the eight seasons?

The end of the de minimis exemption in the USA pushed me to pick up a few foreign titles that I had been dawdling over, so I got the season 9 Blu Ray recently. The original elements are missing for this season, so we get an "SD on Blu Ray" presentation, sourced from tape. I already had the USA DVD set, so I wasn't sure if it was worth bothering.

In the plus column, we get non-telecined video, a slight resolution bump (576 vs 480), modern encoding, and DTS HD MA (although of a tape track). In the minus column, it is PAL rate (25fps), so there is a 4% speedup compared to the DVDs. After correcting for the speedup, the episodes are the same length as those on the DVDs and I have read that they were cut for shorter run time, although I don't know if that is true. Episode 22 (The Town Killer) appears to have been mastered from a better source than the rest (maybe they found the original film for that one?) and has a runtime about five minutes longer. Overall, I would say that it is a modest upgrade and probably as good as it is going to get for this season.
