I was convinced i had the UK 4K and was going to have to shift it on ebay, but searched my films and emails and I never ordered it!
Between thinking i own films when i don't and thinking I don't and then ordering a double, I think i have a problem!

I was tempted to get this during the recent sale from ... Zaavi? Looking forward to this indeed.

I bought this on a recent BF sale from Zavvi, was convinced it wasn't going to get a North American release for a while......and reading posts like these, I'm having a serious buyer's remorse. I didn't receive the disc yet, it's still in transit, but can anyone explain what is so bad about the UK release?

I checked the caps before purchasing, I didn't look bad to me, i saw added detail compared to the blu ray version. My only concern was that the brightness seemed a little tuned up, but can anyone chime in with a little more detail....is it bad HDR, compression, color timing?

so it is not a bad transfer? Do you own it? If so, how would you grade it, and do you anticipate that Sony is going to best it?

ok, thanks. I thought the image looked a little too bright when i looked at the caps.

for instance in this shot, Bruce Willis almost looks like an albino

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...172956&i=3&l=1

in this shot it looks like there's some Minority Report type bleaching going on

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...172958&i=8&l=1

I'm guessing it's a little better in motion, and the HDR conversion is a little off in these caps

Fook me, you can even see Bruce’s nose hair in the first one! He needs a trim. Pesky 4K! Lol.

I'm not selling my UK copy yet. Really no guarantee a new release will be an improvement for any disc.

yeah, it's visible in blu ray cap as well, I just can't get over the brightness on the 4k. that shot in 4k is slightly more detailed but it also looks as if someone is pointing a flashlight at him.

other caps with them in the fields, like this one give it a very bleached look, again i might be off on this, or the caps are

my copy is shipping from Zavvi, I will see it soon, but did you think that the 4k transfer is a little bright on a UK release?

It's the first time I watched at home, and my brain is not reliable when it comes to how shit looked in theaters, but yeah, it seemed a bit bright. Reminded me a little of a Sony disc, actually.

I remember when Cliffhanger 4K came out. The Sony was brighter vs The Studio canal one which was the duller one. I ended up buying the U,K one first and couldn’t get on with it as it was too dull for me. I then bought The Sony and kept that as I felt the other was too dull and gave that to my Bro. He was happy with it.

I might buy the U.K one first just to see for myself how I get on with it then decide whether the U.S one might be worth a punt on next year.

Dont get me wrong, I don't like dull picture quality myself, especially on 4k discs. But it looks like they went overboard with the brightness on this release, giving it an unnatural look. At least that what I took away from those caps. I'm pleased with the added detail over the Sony blu ray, but in SOME of those caps the image looks a little milky to me.

Stop judging HDR by caps. Might be a start.

meh, the movie is not that old so i dont care either way as well.
a new 4K scan would have been overkill. save that perfectionist crap for david fincher movies.

i have the UK disc as well and i would say those 4K HDR caps are forgiving compared to what i see on the disc. it does look punchy and 'dynamic contrast'-y (if youre into that look), but it doesnt suit the film imo and is not my cup of tea.
as someone else had mentioned, it does look like an early sony disc.

its funny considering how accurate sony tv's are out of the box but their 4K discs are another story, albeit detail and resolution being their only saving grace.

Don't get the hate for the UK 4K. I really liked it and think it's a good disc. With these guys (Yedlin & Johnson) there's no way to be sure that the Sony will be better.
