United Kingdom Police Woman and Bewitched

However, Rewind TV are skipping the second pilot TV film Return to Fantasy Island, and starting showing the first season afterwards (it looks like they are)

- and the Angie Dickinson-starring Police Woman is airing on Rewind TV this week (spotted the first episode "The End Game" in the listings, but sadly the backdoor pilot (an episode of Police Story called "The Gamble") isn't being shown).
Police Woman looks to be running twice a week Thursday and Tuesday nights at 9pm, with the episodes rerun at 10pm on the weekends.

I also noted that Bewitched begins a run on Monday 2 December, 5 days a week (they also start a rerun of The Prisoner on Monday.

I've not kept track of this channel as I only have Virgin (I am in aerial blackspot so can't get Freeview). When it first started it was solely showing old UK shows, but if they are moving into US shows as well, it will be irritating. Maybe I can catch Police Woman on someone else's TV. Most of the rest of the content I would wish to watch I already have on DVD (US shows) or DVD/Blu Ray via Network for UK shows.

Think it was Sony themselves who released the first season of Police Woman on DVD in the States, then Shout! Factory released the remaining three seasons (however, the quality is mixed (sounds like 'one extreme to the other') with episodes being uncut and other episodes being syndicated versions, some episodes looking very nice (remastered quality) and some looking not particularly good. I have the first three seasons but not the fourth (I need to check about whether the episodes are uncut in Shout's DVD boxset (the not-so-good picture quality wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me.

United Kingdom Blankety Blank (the Les Dawson era)

I wasn't sure where to post this (either here, the UK gameshows thread or the UK TV from the past thread). Earlier, while checking That's TV's listings for next Monday, I saw (to my surprise) that an edition of Blankety Blank from the Les Dawson era is being shown next Monday (9th December) at 6.35 pm - 7.20 pm. An edition from that era of the gameshow is being shown each day this week around the same time.

Also, airing on Rewind TV next Monday (at 4 pm - 5 pm) is Clive James Meets Katharine Hepburn.

United Kingdom Blankety Blank, Three Up, Two Down and Just Good Friends

This past weekend, while checking the That's TV listings, I noticed that they're repeating a festive edition of Blankety Blank from the Sir Terry Wogan era (a Boxing Day, 1981 special) next Monday (23rd December) at 3.30 am - 4.05 am.

I'm not sure if it's been on That's TV before, but I've set to record a repeat airing of the first episode of eighties sitcom Three Up, Two Down (the cast including Michael Elphick and Angela Thorne). The first series and the first episode of Series 2 are being shown next Saturday lunchtime/afternoon (21st December). Will check if it's had a UK DVD release (still haven't got Eureka's UK DVD release of Just Good Friends).

United Kingdom Diff'rent Strokes on Rewind TV

Something I spotted in the first regular edition of the TV listings magazine following the Christmas and New Year double issue, is that US sitcom Diff'rent Strokes is airing on Rewind TV next week. Have checked the Sky TV listings, and it starts a week today (Monday 6th January) with the episode "Movin' In". Each episode will be shown twice a day Monday to Friday (at 11.30 am - 12 noon and 5 pm - 5.30 pm).

Don't know yet about any weekend airings of the series.

United Kingdom Blue Thunder on Rewind TV

Don't know if this has aired before on the channel, but one of the things I spotted in the new issue of the TV listings magazine when reading it earlier, was the short-lived eighties action drama series Blue Thunder is being shown next week (episodes to be confirmed):

Wednesday 15th January:

7 pm - 8 pm: "Second Thunder" (Episode 1)

Thursday 16th January:

9 am - 10 am: "Second Thunder" (Episode 1)

Friday 17th January:

7 pm - 8 pm: "A Clear and Present Danger" (Episode 2).

Source: Sky TV listings, EpGuides and TV & Satellite Week (Saturday 11th to Friday 17th January, 2025).

United Kingdom Blue Thunder, Born Free (series), etc

I have Blue Thunder on dvd, will have to dig it out.
They have also been showing the short series of The Fantastic Journey, that is being replaced by the 13 episode series of Born Free from 1974 starring Diana Muldaur (which I have never seen).

I note Police Woman is nearing the end of series 1.

Looking at Monday 10th February, there seem to be new runs starting of Jason King and The Zoo Gang.

This Rewind channel has got my attention as there's a car show on it, only 12 or so minutes long but it's a start. Called Auto Rewind and it's about classic British cars.

Also, Arthur C Clarke's Mysterious World/ World of Strange Powers is on too. Great bit of telly. They spoil it by putting the what's coming next banner across half the screen just before the credits. Boo...

When checking Rewind TV's listings, I have looked at Police Woman to see if they will be moving onto the second season or going back to the beginning.

Interesting that Born Free will be airing soon. I hadn't heard of the short-lived TV series until discovering it had a DVD release in the States (possibly a manufactured-on-demand release). It may have also had had a DVD release in Germany, but I could be wrong.

The channel must have some sort of licensing deal with Sony.

Quest Red were terrible with squashing up and talking over the end credits and True Crime were similar until the latter stopped doing both. What's happening now is Quest Red show the end credits on the true crime shows I watch unaffected, but True Crime are now squashing up the end credits for Murder by the Sea, advertising their streaming service as well as dropping the volume for the programme finishing down to zero (ie. you can't hear the end credits music at all). I had thought about recording the programmes I watch on True Crime if they're repeated in the early hours. But I've chose to stay with recording the first airing.

If Rewind still have the license to show The Fantastic Journey, I wouldn't be surprised if they do show it again. I'm hopeful that if the channel has a licensing deal with Sony, that other shows may appear on Rewind that aren't being shown on one of the Sony UK channels (that Sony channel shows a mixture of CBS/Paramount and Sony-licensed series (eg: Father Dowling Mysteries and Hart to Hart). I'm hoping for The Rookies (*) and S.W.A.T. to appear on Rewind.

One of my favourite songs from the sixties is Last Train to Clarkesville by The Monkees.

(*) Maybe Rewind can show the last two seasons (Shout! Factory released the second season on DVD, but stopped after that (Season 3 includes the S.W.A.T. pilot which apparently isn't available or is hard to find).

Does anyone think (like me) that the prints they are using on That's TV are terrible? The show never looked ultra sharp - was it shot on 16mm? -but the copies now being shown are very soft, smeary and in one episode a huge vertical scratch was visible for about a minute!

They were shot and finished on 35mm. They're just using old prints, which have almost certainly been converted to tape for easier distribution.
