(Originally posted by me in the KL thread)
A lot of this looks like the troubled Paramount films Looking For Mr. Goodbar, Little Darlings, and American Hot Wax may finally have their day in the sun. While all three have been dismissed as cost prohibitive repeatedly by KLI and others, the descriptions given here seem like they're very much describing those movies. Also, KLI teased that Goodbar and Darlings would be coming from another boutique, and Vinegar Syndrome teased Goodbar in one of their YouTube videos. (I really don't think lining up your "favorite movies" in the order of "MRGOODBAR" is a coincidence. It would be like Mulvaney lining up his favorite films in the order of "AMBERSONS".) Quote:

KLI, how many of those "new to Blu-ray" movies are also not available on DVD? The Lincoln Conspiracy is one of them, so that leaves 8 "new to Blu" movies. "At least one" of the Blu-ray debuts may be dropped. I can't imagine anything going wrong with a movie like Frankie And Johnny, or Paper Moon, or DeMille's King Of Kings (all of which desperately need Blu-rays, by the way). A hell of a lot can go wrong with the three music movies, and a lot has gone wrong with them. Hell, 90% of those three films' statures comes from the fact that they're unavailable because of their soundtracks. Quote:

Looking For Mr. Goodbar and American Hot Wax are the only films from the 70s that are that prone to disaster. Frankly these two and Little Darlings are more volatile than a truck full of hand grenades speeding towards a film vault. Moving onto the 80s... Quote:

This time around, KLI has been rather shy to even mention LD, but has once again teased Goodbar as coming from somebody else (if not KL or Paramount themselves, I'd guess VS). I'd like to at least see behind the scenes. I'd like to at least know what's going on with these films, what Paramount's doing, what the boutiques are doing, etc. I sent Paramount an email requesting info on the films, and got no answer. At this point I don't expect to receive an answer. All we can do now is prepare for the public domain dates of these films: 2072, 2073, and 2076. Each day that goes by, the less money people have in their pockets and the less incentive the studios have to pay them. |

Bad news, Goodbar is still a tease at best and is still unconfirmed. Good news, VS and their partner label Cinematheque have just announced Little Darlings with its original soundtrack on limited edition 4K/Blu-ray and standard edition 4K/Blu-ray.
Considering KL said someone else had Goodbar, and considering one of the guys from VS listed his favorite movies in the order that all the first letters spelled “MRGOODBAR”, I think it’s highly likely that VS, and possibly their partner label Cinematheque, will be releasing Looking For Mr. Goodbar in the future. Considering it’s probably the most notable music rights issue for a film (Academy Award nominee, arguably the real reason Diane Keaton won her Oscar for Best Actress, one person jammed the film up looking for a pay day), it would be amazing if that one could finally see the light of day. |

This film is playing at the Roxy Cinema here in Manhattan this Wednesday, on 35mm. I’ve actually never seen this film in its entirety, so I’m going to go.
It’s a double feature with Star 80, also showing in 35mm, but that’s too depressing and readily available to watch online and I can’t leave my dog home alone that long, so it’s Mr. Goodbar only for me. |

Two movies desperately in need of a Blu-ray release. Goodbar hopefully comes from VS soon.
Star 80 is a toss-up between WAC, Criterion, and Shout. If Shout has it, we have to hope they don’t ruin it. If either WAC or Criterion has it, then we have to wonder when the hell it will be released. Both boutiques are known for moving at a snail’s pace. |

1) Recreational drug use 2) Gay and Bi-sexuality 3) Recreational (for any better term) female sexuality 4) Sex work All of those storylines were kind of taboo, especially in the way the film handled them (again for that era). |

I love hate this movie because it really is a great film, but the ending to this movie stays with me way too long after I've seen it and really puts me in a bad place. I watched it last year after not having seen it in over a decade and I think that was probably the last time I'll revisit this because I just can't with the ending of the film. It's too much for me. I'm conflicted because I'm a cinephile and I feel like I need to own this movie
