I love slips.. I love the library feel it gives the collection.. Oddly, if I have the slip, I feel like I have the movie already since the discs can generally get picked up for $10 or so on Ebay or new on BF. I would like to have an all slipcover film collection (all titles with a slip).

I love slips, but I've gotten out of the game of trying to get them and worry about them as much as I use to. For my Kino and Scream Factory 4Ks, I don't even keep the slips anymore because I think Kino looks better without them and Scream Factory chooses what they give a slip to these days with their 4Ks and I hate the look of slip, slip, no slip, slip, no slip ... I'm lame like that. When it comes to Vinegar Syndrome and Partner labels, the slip is a must. As for my just regular across the board 4Ks, I try to ALWAYS get the slip and as of now, everything has a slip. I do think it makes it look better, but I don't know. I've spent so much money on just slips that it's pretty ridiculous, but now with my collection shrinking, I hope to not spend money on slips and if I do, let it only be a couple of bucks.

Some sellers will buy the whole movie wholesale when new and sell every component separately (the slip, disc w/ insert only, the digital download, the case). When it came to Scream factory, I used to buy two copies.. I would wait a year or more and sell the extra copy to offset the cost or provide partial discount of the first copy. This was working until Scream factory did themselves a dis-service though when they decided to go 4K with many of their blu-ray titles so quickly. I stopped buying from them for a while and will never buy a blu-ray title from Scream factory ever again because they might pump out the 4K version the following year or two. They made it very difficult to sell the second copy of blu-rays that I had. |

Coming back to update this and say that I sold all of my slipcovers. Yes, every single one in a huge lot to one buyer. Honestly, I don’t regret it one bit. The relief I feel buying movies now far outweighs the feeling of having slipcovers. Being able to just grab the first copy off the shelf and not have to inspect all ten copies. Being able to order from Amazon and not care if corners got smashed cause they shipped it in a bubble mailer.
You too can free yourself from the burden of having to always find mint slips lol. ![]() |

That’s how I felt until I realized that with stores not carrying movies anymore, and everything having to be ordered online, the chances of all my slips being damaged greatly increased. My most recent large order of ten movies arrived with eight of the slips damaged, and it wasn’t even from Amazon.

I usually order from Orbit and Diabolik. However, that doesn’t matter if USPS/UPS don’t handle the packages properly. The days of being able to pick out a good copy at the store are numbered. If something comes damaged through the mail, you have to just return and try again. Then a one day thing becomes a one or two week thing. Then what if the replacement is also damaged? Just much easier mentally to get rid of the slips and not worry about them going forward.

My question is will a mint slip be a rarity? Best Buy says they're going to stop holding physical media in stores so no more shopping for the best condition slip in store. My problem is with Amazon and how they don't care and just throw movies into bubble envelopes for shipping. I think we should all do a private protest and continue to return movies with damaged slips to Amazon. Hopefully, they will get with it and put more care into their packaging if they want to continue to sell physical media.

Yes, mint slips will be a rarity. I’m not saying online stores like Diabolik or Orbit won’t package with care, but you still have to take UPS, USPS, FedEx, etc. into account as well. Movies packaged in a box with bubble wrap can still be crushed if the whole box is crushed in shipping. |

I've tried some of the other "tricks". Ordering it with batteries or dyes. I order beard dye to cover up some of my slight greys and it ALWAYS comes in a box, without fail. There must be something in it that must be shipped in a box. |

I’ve received Shout Factory releases like that from them too. Maybe that’s how Shout ships to the Amazon warehouse and Amazon leaves it in that packaging?

In terms of slips , my preference will always be the best slip possible. However, given lack of availability in stores, I am now much more willing to accept a less than stellar slip . I no longer try to hunt down slips, return slips, buy extra copies, etc. Granted - if I purchase something and it has a badly damaged / torn slip, I would consider returning, but I am willing to tolerate dings and imperfections. Do I still miss those nice minty slips? Absolutely.
