I will say that the visuals don't look half bad in this trailer. I watched it on my phone though, maybe the smaller screen made it look better than it really is lol.
The games have become so “sanitized” and “friendly”. Early games had you stopping criminal syndicates, ecological terrorists, etc. and now its school bullies and fan clubs who want their girl to be champ…

If the path forward is this stuff for the “mainline” games and more entries like Arceus for the spin offs then I’d be okay with that I suppose. I want to love a new mainline game but Arceus was fantastic gameplay and I still think the best game they have ever made. Actually, if we were coming from Sword and Shield straight to these new entries I’d probably be more positive on them. But having just had Arceus in the same year showing me what they can actually make has doused any excitement for what looks to be modern Pokemon by the numbers thus far.

The dock and joycons look nice but that graffiti style on the back is super tacky imo.

It's sad really. Even the new characters look bland and uninspired. It's like they aren't even trying with these designs. Gym leaders, elite four, villains are all forgettable with no redeeming memorable traits.

If not for Legends Arceus I think I'd be completely uninterested in Pokemon going forward. The new mainline games suck, remakes are lackluster and you'd be better off playing the originals. Legends is the only thing that feels new and fresh. I'm crossing my fingers for a Johto style game in the near future.

They’ve been so successful for so long they have stagnated. The market has shown them they have no reason to put further effort whether technical or artistic into it because the games will move millions regardless.

I’m hopeful that Masuda moving away from hands on development of the series can finally make room for new blood and new creativity. Like I said, I WANT to be excited for these games but they haven’t shown me a reason to so as of right now I’m still taking a pass on these.

I still can't believe SWSH sold as many copies as they have. On one hand I can understand why because they're the first HD console games in the series. But then I look at the overall quality of these games and I can't help but think SWSH is so undeserving of this level of success. I couldn't be bothered with the DLC, sold my copies off before ever playing it and I won't look back.

This and Legends were in development side by side so I’m not surprised to see most of the excellent steps forward from Legend not incorporated in this game. I guess we will have to wait for the next one to see any of the good stuff from Legend return.

Do you feel the same way about the new Pokémon?

Most of the new Pokemon look very good. The human characters are the real issue.

To seperate from the negativity, honestly I can't wait for this. I'm only now finally going through Sword, and am having a blast with that. To be fair, it's probably because the last one I played was X, and before that Ruby, lol. I don't have the burnout from years of similar titles.

Sounds like we've got another quality Pokemon game over here. Nintendo Life got to play an hour and a half of Scarlet and it sounds like an absolute mess in terms of performance. He estimates it's running at about 10fps-15fps, barely able to keep up at 30fps for longer than 10 seconds and 720p. It could and probably will receive a day 1 patch but I assume a lot of these issues will still be present at launch.

This is simply embarrassing. Highest grossing media franchise of all time and this is the quality we receive.

I watch their channel a lot and Alex always tries to be positive, so the fact that he had such critical things to say about the performance speaks volumes to me. What a joke…

And it will still sell 10 million without breaking a sweat so nothing will change.

They need to stop doing these yearly games. We should have gotten some DLC for Legends Arceus between fall and winter and then push Scarlet and Violet to summer 2023. These games clearly needed more time in development and they had a good thing going with Legends Arceus, why not make use of that in the meantime?

That awkward spinning motion that Zacian/Zamazenta did in SWSH returning for another round in Scarlet and Violet, the cherry on top.

I would guess the anime is wrapping up its current season and maybe they also wanted the new trading cards out. The games get relegated to the schedule of all that even though they are what starts it all and also massive money makers themselves. Even with the turn times they have the games should be better and better made. They just refuse to throw the budget at them that would be needed for that under those constraints.

But I agree, in considering only the games, Gen 9 did not need to launch for minimum another 6 months. Honestly they could have a meaty Arceus DLC and pushed this as far as September.

I found Fuecoco's final from to be the most underwhelming and generic.

I might forgo the starters entirely given the strength of some of the new Pokémon (and new forms of some of the older ones), but I'll likely go with Sprigatito, at least until I have enough Pokémon to comfortable ditch it, and I might still go with Fuecoco for my Scarlet play-through.

This generation is also looking to be one of the biggest since Generation V. I have spoiled myself a little with some of the returning Pokémon, but not so much that it will kill the surprise of encountering the new species along the way.

It's ironic that the leaks have done a much better job of hyping up the game for me than TPCi's rather underwhelming trailers.

Every review mentioning major performance issues. Not a good sign.

Time to start playing. I'm going in with low expectations and hope to be surprised.
