I thought it was okay. As someone else mentioned, though, it didn't feel like a True Detective episode, not with all the overt supernatural elements and bad CGI. Jodie Foster was decent, but I didn't care much for the Navarro character. Hopefully, I'll warm up to her as the season goes on.

I didn’t mind the supernatural element because I think it will be explained away. The old lady just hallucinated and just got lucky.

Quite enjoyed it, to be honest. Not keen on the intro song, at all, superficial, droning, pish. Wasn't liking the songs played throught the episode, either. Those are minor complaints, though. As for the actual episode, I'm interested in where it is going, quite like the cast, so far.

Regarding the supernatural, stuff.
[Show spoiler]Those scientists have discovered some old frozen microbe that has made its way into the water, which is causing hallucinations.
I reckon.

Took me a bit to warm up to it. Someone pointed out the intro song not being great, yeesh...that is correct, but nothing will beat out S1 intro song.

The ep was interesting enough. Has "The Thing" vibe a little in they focused on lab/living qtrs. Hope the story doesn't dissapoint, but count me in for now. Good first episode.

Old Jodie Foster is really starting to look like Charlotte Rampling!

Pretty good start to the season

I was thinking more Helen Hunt but yeah Rampling is a good one.

I think Fortitude from 2015 also inspired the looks and setting of this series. Good start.

I liked that the box for that movie was quite prominent on the shelf by the TV in the research station.

But what about the
[Show spoiler] polar bear that had the exact same markings & missing eye as Foster's stuffed toy?

Really enjoyed most of episode 1. The sex scenes seemed a bit unnecessary, & the 'interpretive dance' bit was like something David Lynch would have thrown into an episode of Twin Peaks for no particular reason. Also, if you lived in a place where the temperature is always going to be way below zero, would you really have metal piercings in your face?

Other than that, great stuff. Foster was excellent as usual, it's always nice to see John Hawkes get more work, the mystery was intriguing, & the look of the whole thing was just awesome. The outside scenes felt otherworldly & the bits in the empty research station were all quite ominous.

Looking forward to the rest of it.

He doesn't seem to have much to do with it aside from adding his name to the long list of EPs.

He’s just a producer. The thread title is misleading.

Fortitude s1 was fantastic then it went off the rails. Its like they completely forgot the plot they have started on in s1 with those killer insects. That whole plot was suddenly gone in s2.

I liked the mystery in TD s4 and Jodie Foster is always good. Very intrigued to see where its going.

The whole stepdaughter (?) thing is a bit annoying. She stated you don't have to act like a mom implying her former husband was her dad and she was a step parent.

Are they implying she committed sexual assault and child porn? I guess I am not sure how old she is supposed to be.

The girl in question is 16 that does not mean she can be filmed having sex with her.

Not sure where they are trying to go with this other than her being let off a possible crime.

BIG time Fortitude vibe here as well.
