My question is if the included Blu-ray will be a Blu-ray of WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE, as that never got a US release.

I think this will probably be a Paramount Presents release. It mentions LE like Presents releases, and has the same price-point as The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. The pricing actually concerns me a little given that two films are mentioned. Makes me wonder if When Worlds Collide will just be a bonus BD or something.

I hope Mars will be red in the prologue and the original mono track will be included.

You never know but the tag from Target does mention two 4ks so I'm hopeful:

KA-WAR OF THE WORLDS (1953) & WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE (LE 4K/BLU-RAY/DIGITAL) (4K/UHD)

Three disc set with WotW getting a 4k and bd while WWC just getting a 4k?

Ostensibly, there’s no reason why the two films can’t be on one 4K disc, they’re both less than 90m. It’s probably what I would do if I was managing this release.

just came across this while browsing target pre-releases, so i submitted to the database (although i didn't do the individual releases to add as bundle components)

it's probably been mentioned elsewhere, but i'm always curious why target doesn't carry certain releases, like species or species 4k. or are they just sold out and thus don't turn up in searches, only direct links?

Good point. Each could have an average bitrate of 65 Mb/s for the transport stream (which shouldn't have too many space-hungry foreign dubs, not in lossless anyway) which would take up about 45GB per movie, you could put them both onto a UHD100 and still leave the outer zone of each layer free for squeezing on some extras. For 1.37 shows without a lot of hectic movement (and plenty of 'managed' opticals, at least on WOTW) then that'll be plenty, even with the DV layer included.

BUT I think they'll be separate discs if only so they can be sold separately in a steelbook or whatever further down the line.

So, this will be a double feature release?

Two of the most iconic Science Fiction epics come to Paramount Presents in this out-of-this-world limited-edition double feature from producer George Pal. Making its 4K UHD debut, WAR OF THE WORLDS is an Oscar winning adaptation of the chilling H.G. Wells novel. Then, get ready for impending disaster, when a runaway star signals the destruction of Earth in WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE, included on Blu-ray remastered from the original film elements. Both are essential Technicolor masterpieces from the Golden Age of Hollywood, delivering eye-popping visual effects and unmatched sound design.

Ah, so it's UHD for War of the Worlds and BD for When Worlds Collide. Well done to those who predicted that.

Make sure to hit "yes" here otherwise when specific searching for 4K titles, it won't show up.

I'm betting it will be one of the two.

I guess it's likely then that the limited part of this is the double feature nature of it, and the two films will receive individual releases later.

If it is a Paramount Presents title as I theorized, then that's likely why it's labeled an LE. They are in fact limited too. I don't know if their 4K line is the same (this would only be their second after Liberty Valance), but the Blu-ray Presents releases are limited to 10,000 copies.

I've updated the first post to reflect the changes, and also requested a title change. It was Target's wording and listing that gave the impression that both would be in 4K, but I do apologize for my part in getting anyone's hopes up. Getting WotW in 4K directly from Paramount is of course still huge, and exciting.

Take my money.
A UHD of Forbidden Planet would be ace, but it was the anniversary last year and WB did nowt, so I won't get my hopes up. Maybe they'll give it to Criterion.
