Indeed. That's the only reason I am keeping the French set. I'll have those extras if I want to play them.

Anyone know why JB is not listing the Blu-ray set?

I've no idea and neither does the staff member in my local store who knows me. I contacted JB's head office as to why it was taken down and I still haven't heard back from them. This was about 2 months ago.

I ordered the Australian set (edit: last week) and it arrived today! It is 1080p/24 but, for some reason it plays at 60 in my Sony x700 UHD bd player, it may be something with the settings, but, anyway it looks great, and nice to have lossless audio, finally!

Commentaries, the only audio is the dts ma English, at least on the first pilot episode, …it says on the case it has video blogs, is this where the commentaries were taken from? I know with BSG that Ronald d Moore had podcasts that, at least on the Blu-ray set, were added as commentary tracks.

Edit: I’m in the US

FYI I purchased this on Amazon(USA), sold by “Prime DVDs” which seems to be RSM amazon marketplace storefront, except title availability is slightly different so maybe a separate warehouse in the US? Prices (in USD) are basically the same.

I’m reading through this thread and I’m glad I skipped previous releases as messed up audio would not have gone over well with me, got to have bear mccreary’s audio fully intact, in fact, I put BSG on many times in the past just to hear it.

It has a MA 15+ restricted rating, I don’t know how AU ratings go, but I’m guessing that’s similar to an “R” rating, not MA/unrated as in the US, so, …I think the discs are region free and maybe it was just to make the discs more available in more countries. It’s not a deal breaker for me, though, it would have been nice to have the extra scenes… too bad they couldn’t have just added the unrated pilot and have to be able to “unlock” it (parental lock on the episode only), but, I guess it would still have to be unrated. Maybe my thinking is just too advanced. …I assume the extra scenes are not in the deleted scenes, as that would still affect the overall rating of the set?

The Caprica commentaries were separate from the video blogs, so unfortunately all that content is totally dropped here.

All content has to receive a separate rating here in Australia - so if something was rated R in the US, it doesn't automatically receive an MA rating here. Likewise, "unrated" content in the US always has to be passed for a rating here, but it's not a problem - we have a rating higher than MA that can comfortably take care of most things.

In fact, the unrated pilot already has a rating here - it also received an MA rating back when it was released on DVD. Its lack of inclusion in this Blu set is therefore a decision made on Universal's end - I believe it's just that the broadcast version has become considered the main version.

After the show originally ended, a "Complete Series" DVD set was put together, and that only featured the broadcast version of the pilot as well. The only places that have had the unrated pilot released in the time since then seem to be those European 1080i Blu sets, so the fact that it's the broadcast version here makes me think that whoever prepared this set at Universal just assumed the version with the updated effects was the definitive version.

The best way to go is the Australian set. It is region-free and 1080p, not 1080i. Keep in mind that the pilot episode is the censored version, so if that bugs you, you'll have to get the unrated pilot elsewhere.

And yes, the transfer is fantastic and blows the DVD out of the water easily.

Yes that’s it, that’s where I bought the set in July, only now it’s 10% off!

Lightbulb Caprica: The Complete Series (Aug 10 2022)

I have this version….

Would the Australian be something that I would enjoy over my German edition or would it be an unnecessary purchase for me?

On the X-700 change the upscale settings to Auto 2, as it will then upscale to 4K/24p.

The Aussie set is at the correct speed (24p). All other editions are 50fps, which means PAL Speed-up (music is faster and half an octave out of pitch and even actors voices sound squeakier,, especially male voices, like there balls are being grabbed).

Exclamation Get it while you can...

The Australian 1080/24p release: FYI: if I'm not mistaken this is a Random Space Media title and they have closed their doors, this title is still available as of right now via their Amazon US marketplace: Prime DVDs, so if you've waited, now is the time to get this, not sure how long it will be open, I'm pretty sure they are just selling off remaining inventory, and could close without notice, as the RSM website is suddenly down, only heard of the closing in last couple days.

Just seeing this now, this has been one of my holy grails (1080/24p). Am I SOL at this point? In the limited number of searches I've made after seeing this, I'm not seeing the Australian version available anywhere.

I just browsed Amazon.au. Wow, it does look like you're SOL. It would have to be a 3rd party reseller at this point, which could mean $$$.

I was trying to find one last year and having trouble but luckily found one on eBay almost *checks notes* exactly one year ago. Can't imagine it becoming easier since then.

Sucks that it’s oop.

Did anyone notice who got it notice these problems?

https://www.reddit.com/r/BSG/comment...lity_concerns/

Also is anything stopping another company from doing a blu ray?

I'm making my way back through BSG, so I'll keep an eye out once I hit the Caprica discs to see how bad the noise/macroblocking issues are.
