Interesting bit of trivia. I thought she looked familiar. Those eyes

I saw this today for the first time. I'm definitely not in line with those who say it's a masterpiece or better than The Exorcist, but it's a good drama with thriller elements (it's not horror and not scary) and generally excellent performances, particularly from Marsha Mason and Anthony Hopkins, who, along with Robert Wise, deserve much of the credit for this film not being a disaster. Susan Swift is good in a demanding role, but I wish a lot of what happens to her had been written differently, since much of it is embarrassingly repetitive. To me the film is walking a tightrope between the possible and the downright absurd, where unfortunately, it stumbles into the latter a few times. The ending is very brave, though. It's definitely a film worth seeing, probably more than once, but I could see a lot of horror fans coming away very disappointed.

Kind of a comedown, though Halloween 6 is a lot more fun than Audrey Rose.

Correct, this release doesn't come with a slip. Only a reversible cover and for the first pressing only, a collector's booklet.

They have this in stock at my Barnes and Noble with the 50% off sale. Worth a blind buy?

If you enjoy dramatic type thrillers esp during this period. I like the setting and atmosphere. It has many haters, and at times I find the story ridiculous but this is my third copy and the best transfer. I sold off my old Twilight time already and keeping the Imprint for some of those extras.

I’m also a fan of Marsha Mason

I've only seen Marsha Mason in one other film - 1993's Nick of Time. I thought she looked familiar in that; I knew I'd seen her in something else but I just couldn't place her.

I think people who dismiss the film as ridiculous/absurd do so because of the subject matter - Reincarnation is a tough pill to swallow for most folks. If you're able to look past that I think the film can still be enjoyed as a decent stalker thriller and court procedural. The performances I thought were great and there's an eerie vibe that permeates most of the running time. Those are all pluses in a movie that is otherwise admittedly silly.

I don't think the subject matter is silly, but paradoxically the film takes itself too seriously.

Just watched mine. Loved it. I haven't ever seen the whole film. I was engrossed the whole time. Great supernatural/psychological thriller. Terrific release.

This one really is a huge step up from the Twilight Time disc. While that release was servicable (and the best available version of the film when it was released), the transfer really was a mess. The Arrow disc looks great. I almost bought the Imprint release awhile back, but held off because the price on Amazon was kind of steep—glad I waited. I grabbed the new Arrow disc at Barnes & Noble for $19.99 (half-off sale). It appears almost all the bonus features on the Arrow disc were ported over from the Imprint disc, aside from the Kim Newman interview which is exclusive to the Imprint release.

This is also one of the rare occasions where I prefer the newly-issued artwork to the original artwork on the reverse side of the sleeve—I don't think I'm going to flip it around like I usually do. I've always thought the original promotional artwork for this film was kind of cheesy (isn't that Brooke Shields on the poster?). I really love the new dreamy, blueish-pink cover that Arrow commissioned. Very haunting.

While the new artwork is very good (which is not always the case with a lot of releases, as we all know) I actually like the original artwork. It was the artwork that appeared on the original paperback version of the novel by Frank DeFelitta, before it was a film. As for Brooke Shields, yes that is her but it wasn’t some sort of “stunt casting” as no one knew who she was at the time. Her mother pushed her into modeling, then acting, literally from the cradle, and her posing for that cover was just another in a series of many modeling jobs and commercials. I don’t think she was really on anyone”s radar until a few years later, when Louis Malle controversially cast her as a young prostitute in the film “Pretty Baby”.

I don’t think anyone could go wrong with either cover in this case, depending on their personal preference.

I think I had the DVD of this 20 years ago. I didn't know what to think. I thought it was somewhat good, yet bizarrely embarrassing. The content of the movie seemed absurd, but I will probably get this release some time. I've been keeping an eye out for the title of this movie so I could perhaps get it in the future. I was glad to see Arrow put it out.

I remember that the disc had a funny picture of Audrey Rose in a trance of her former self. It was odd.

Never seen this one, but love 70s horror and thrillers. Is this a safe blind buy? Good atmosphere, creepy great grand 70s music?

you've hit the nail on the head. The movie is really well made, excellent music, technically polished, Anthony Hopkins is really good with what he has to work with, but with that subject matter is going to look ridiculous to most modern heads, and even some not so modern.

I admit I like it, always have since the first watch, and as a young adult I remember being kind of scared, so its not out of the question to consider this a horror movie.

Ultimately your enjoyment of this movie will depend on your capacity for suspension of disbelief, or if you take half seriously reincarnation.

It's not that I have an issue with the "subject matter" of reincarnation as a driving force, I just find it to be a mostly dull film. It's a shame since Robert Wise has given great horror/supernatural films before ("The Body Snatcher", "The Haunting").

It sucks Susan Swift is such a nutcase now. She's DEEP into the far right conspiracies and just unbelievably hateful. Daniel Farrands said he spoke with her on Zoom for the special features for H6 but it was just a for a few minutes of stuff and she asked him "Are you a Satanist? Because of all the occult stuff in your movie." And he said she rambled on about crap that didn't even concern the movie and was extremely rude and he just ignored her.. They wound up not even using it because it was so ridiculous.
At least I can still enjoy Audrey Rose since she was only a young girl in it not yet contaminated by such hateful ways.
