I really, really wish Arrow would at least use different cover art between their previous blu-ray releases and the UHDs so I don't have identical-looking packages on the shelf. Especially since this isn't the original artwork anyways. This is something else I don't like that Arrow does. Same with the upcoming Videodrome UHD - same exact cover art as their blu-ray which I already own. I feel like I'm literally buying the same thing all over again.

Shout made a good call reverting to OG art on (most of) their 4K releases.

Not necessarily a good movie but damned if it didn't look amazing. The effects here have aged better than 100% of the MCU's effects.

There will also be a Silent Running 4K Steelbook and Deluxe Limited Edition. These are Zavvi exclusives in the UK. I imagine they will be available in the US as a store exclusive too. Credit to arrowvimeo

I bought the Blu-ray on day one because I'm a big fan of this movie, the movies of the early 1970s, and the sci-fi genre in general, but what, aside from the 4K presentation whose benefits for this edition, when compared to Arrow's previous release, I expect to be middling, what is in this new package that would tempt me to double dip?

I'm of the opinion that original audio must be included with every release, but I also like the option of having newly created surround options and there's not even a new 5.1 based on the 6-track 70mm blowup, much less an Atmos track. What's the draw? No new commentaries, documentaries, or even new essays to attract my interest.

Also, are we to believe that an even newer 4K scan was created for this UHD release when the Blu featured a new 4K scan of the OCN, albeit one that was restored in 2K, only two years ago?

No, it has to be the same 4K scan as the previous release. It received a restoration in 4K now though, which is new. The previous restoration was approved by Douglas Trumbull, but with him sadly passing in February, I'm sure Arrow will do their best to ensure it has the same inherent look as that one.

I almost bought the Blu-ray a couple times. Now I'm glad I didn't.

Getting that Deluxe set, I wish it wasn't Zavvi exclusive though.

Edit: Speaking OF Zavvi (UK), are they using IOSS for international orders already? Haven't ordered from them in a long time.

Zavvi lost my business for life and I'm not backing down.

I do also find it frustrating when we see a "deluxe edition" which is really nothing more than a small poster and 6 b&w postcards you'll never look at more than once (not even nice images like alternate poster art), and a steelbook which doesn't even give you the poster or booklet, when it could. Steelbook fans never end up with the poster, or booklets. And both are limited to one crummy store I'll never buy from again. Which leaves me with the standard edition as the only option for me. It's ridiculous that I can't buy an exclusive edition straight from Arrow to avoid Zavvi's miserable service.

It's available directly from Arrow's store in the US if you don't want to buy from Zavvi.

Thank you!

So the limited edition seems to include the steelbook, poster, postcards and booklet? Are the booklets the same in the standard and limited edition?

Standard edition:
Illustrated collector’s booklet featuring writing on the film by Barry Forshaw and Peter Tonguette

Limited Edition:
Illustrated collector’s booklet featuring writing on the film by Barry Forshaw and Peter Tonguette, and an extensive image gallery including behind the scenes stills and original concept drawings

The limited edition is nice, though it has the same artwork 3 different times - the steebook itself, the slipbox, and the booklet cover. It would be nice to have the original poster art for sure, but a variety would be nice. Why not an alternate poster image for the booklet cover at least? At least the standard edition will let you flip the case art so you'll have 2 different pieces of artwork (though the slipbox will have the new art and many would prefer the slipbox to have the original art).

The MSRP of $69.95 for the limited is ludicrous though for what you get. Their 'discounted' price is a bit more reasonable, though still a bit high.

Diabolik has the pre-order up but only for the standard edition. I guess they won't get the limited edition or steelbook if it's an Arrow/Zavvi exclusive?

There's a lot of repetition with the collectors thingy, yeah. Won't be getting that one.

They are more-or-less the same thing, both parts of The Hut Group.

I know the music and vocals are a matter of taste, but the Joan Baez rendition of Rejoice in the Sun to many ears, mine included, was a stunning and touching coda to this memorable film, way ahead of its time as a cry for ecological perseverance and a forward looking standpoint. I have the old Blu-ray not yet watched, but will probably get this upgrade which I hadn’t expected.

Looks good, Day one for me if they do the Deluxe box for the US. Speaking of Arrow, including today i received my 3th unsolicited replacement of the 12 Monkeys UHD not sure what i did right or wrong as 1 replacement was fine.

If I upgrade this, it will be on a steep discount in the distant future, and I’ll reuse my slipcover. I enjoy this movie for what it is, but it isn’t a favorite and I really thought it was reasonable to expect the BD to be the final word on this one given the release date.
