Dead Silence 4K UHD (2007) from Scream Factory

Seen this a few times over the years and always end up disappointed. The concept on paper seems good but somethings missing in the execution. There's definitely some standout moments I enjoy and the atmosphere is pretty good, but for me it doesn't really come together well.

It's weird; Scream released Dawn of The Dead with the Unrated Cut in 4K with the theatrical version only on Blu-ray (and with the 2K remaster), yet with Dead Silence it's vice versa.

Not to discredit Shout! or Universal's credibility but how can the unrated material for the latter not exist? If Universal was able to release the Unrated cut in 1080p on Blu-ray, then the materials have to exist.

I would gladly wait if it meant to have both cuts (of both films) (remastered) in 4K.

[Show spoiler]CGI tongue added in some shots/scenes, and I haven't seen the movie yet, but it seems pretty laughable to me, which is probably why it was removed from the theatrical version?

How is it "mostly" that? That only accounts for two of the differences. There are also several additional and extended scenes.

I don't think I've actually seen the unrated version. Very odd to cut that tongue stuff out considering how supernatural and ghastly Mary Shaw is in the theatrical.

The theatrical is the best cut. The unrated cut CGI is poor and the alternate ending is cheese central.

Many Blu-rays have. The recent Child's Play 2 and 3, and Bubba Ho-Tep 4Ks also did. The extra slips I have gotten (all BD, so maybe things changed) were sent in a large sandwich bag, except The Thing, which was the first alt slip I got, was just packed loose in the box. These also were in bigger boxes with posters, so not sure if you don't get posters what they do.

Looks like the 4K's are doing the same, found this ebay listing:

I noticed that both Shout and Arrow have been having a tough time moving their exclusive slips. Arrow had a 50% off sale on Deadly Games I think? exclusive slip, while Shout had 50% off the Child's Play slip bundles - both many months after their release. Seems like the demand for this sort of thing has softened a bit. Perhaps most people just want *a* slipcover and don't care to pay an extra $10 for two?

Regardless I got the Dead Silence alt slip cause I liked the look of it, and when you pull it off it will reveal the creepy marionette. Bubba ho-tep alt slip was drawn well but I liked main slip better for the content.

I gotta be honest. I think iI like that this ending feels less abrupt than the theatrical.

Its less abrupt but I find it super cringey especially the last minute or so.

Shipping notification received from Shout!

So, my Dead Silence arrived today and it came with the poster of the new artwork, not the original artwork as stated on the product page. Email has been sent to Shout, waiting on a response.

Edit: Problem resolved. They asked for pictures of the poster they sent, and about 4 hours later and email back stating they would ship the correct poster out!

Just delivered this morning! Slips are in excellent condition and both posters look great (just have to decide which to frame and hang). No reversible artwork, for anyone wondering. Interestingly, the slip was not shrink wrapped around the case and case was heat sealed so the front of the plastic wraparound was warped. Nothing a replacement 2-disc case couldn’t fix but that was my only complaint with this one.

Also, NO SCRATCHES!

I got my copy today as well. Everything is exactly as you described it. Slip not sealed and warping on the front of the case. No scratches! Posters and extra slip mint!
