Thought I'd have a bit more to say about this one... It occasionally has an issue where one eye's image is a bit darker than the other, causing some discomfort. Thankfully, these stints are always quite short. Otherwise, this film is a bit incomprehensible, though not unpleasant. I caught some threads of themes developing throughout, but, could not construe the overall image they were meant to convey. I'll definitely make use of the commentaries later.

![]() ![]() ![]() I did enjoy how the director used 3D as art. Fade transitions can look bad in 3D, but he layered them so the shot being transitioned to fades in on a different plane than the previous shot. He used the same technique with some of the overlaid scenes, where each scene was playing in a different 3D space, which I thought was neat. Definitely experimental. Totally understand if others don’t like this film as much as I did. ![]() Last edited by Elsinore; 04-12-2023 at 03:42 PM. |

Kind of bizarre, but this is available on Vudu IN 3D for rent and sale ($4.99 and $16.99 US respectively). Very odd that this would show up there…

Well, in the US anyway. There is that lucrative Russian and Chinese VR streaming market ![]() <edit> Would be interesting to reach out to the filmmaker to find out exactly how much effort is actually involved when adding a 3D version to Vudu. Was thinking the same thing. I get it that pressing the discs, adding in the cases, and all the investment in producing physical copies turns people off from a small fan base such as ours but this really just seems like the companies are leaving money on the table - I for one would kill to get some titles any was I can legitimately and this would at least be a way to do that.

My copy came on Tuesday and I watched it after work today with chicken fingers. So the bad first. I didn't like the movie at all and found it kind of boring. You should know the movie has 0 dialog and most of it is black and white. The story to the extent there is one I found difficult to follow, E.g. the plot summary says there was
[Show spoiler] but I never saw [Show spoiler] so either it was very low key and implied or my mind was wondering when it happened. So as a movie I would never watch it again. I will say that is is very atmospheric and surreal and is definitely like an arthouse film so if you like those (I don't really) this might be your thing. The sound was on point, I liked that. And some scenes did have some very cool imagery. As for the 3D, that is very very good. The majority of the film is medium strong and there are only a few times it goes medium or weak. It is all depth, I don't recall any popouts. However, the 3D works very well in this movie and with all of the surreal imagery. In some shots the depth in the scene was stunning and I had to pause to just look at it. In contrast to the complete lack of dialog i nthe movie, I appreciated that the filmmaker gave commentary for all of the deleted, of which there are 26 minutes worth. (Although it sounds like most of them are from a completely different version of the movie they abandoned and rewrote it.) I also liked the stills gallery and his short film that is also on the disc (in 2D, with very minimal dialog). The movie was not my thing but with the quality of the 3D and how well it works in this movie I would defintiely recommend this one, at least rent it on Vudu or something! |

It's certainly very artsy, offering some striking B/W landscapes (reminiscent of a wall hanging), with some kaleidoscopic psychedelia tossed in and a detour down Eraserhead land in the home stretch. Skillfully done and possibly a welcome fit for some collectors but I'm glad I was able to rent rather than buy because I wouldn't get multiple viewings out of this. |

Love hearing others’ take on Leda. Interesting how tastes in film can vary as much as food. And nobody’s wrong or right. Here’s what I think the plot is. If you haven’t seen it, you can come up with your own interpretation and not read this …
[Show spoiler] Like this kind of artsy stuff or hate it, the movie has some really cool 3D imho. ![]() |

Just finished watching it. Beautifully shot and the 3D was excellent IMO. Just couldn't get into the story but will definitely research the origins to understand it better.
It was shot near me so I need to figure out exactly where now. ![]() https://www.fredericknewspost.com/ne...c901fcc07.html Last edited by Mean Gene; 04-16-2023 at 02:46 AM. |

Found it necessary to read up about the character in Greek mythology and now I have a better understanding of the narrative behind this art house type film. Suggest others do the same to make sense of what was shown on the screen. Surprised some of my hunches were correct.
The 3D was inconsistent. Quite often depth was noticeably mild yet other times the spatial layering was quite strong. But this isn't a bad thing. Believe it was intentional and creative to place more emphasis on significant dramatic moments. It works well in black and white. First finding the film either over my head or just overbearing, understanding of the mythology regarding Leda allows me in retrospect to appreciate what could be referred to as "experimental" cinema. Might not be for everybody so recommended but with discretion. |

I find Elsinore's breakdown as good as any possible explanation, and he includes questions about the enigmatic events.
At first, I was confused about the intent of the film, but later reading of the centuries-old visitations by artists intrigued with the Greek myth makes it clear that this is another rendering in a new medium to add to the fold. The comparison to REPULSION makes sense; fans of that film should easily see the similarities and appreciate it. I suspect viewers who care more about story than style are not likely to enjoy LEDA. I admit that it's taken some meditation on the images now lodged in my brain for me to say that I actually like the movie. I'm surprised to say that I do, honestly. It's strange how the mind can change when a little study is added to the initial viewing. |

Hi Elsinore
Read your hypothesis and found it very interesting. But I'm not sure if the intent was expressionistic to evoke individual moods or ideas as it was to create a specific mental image which would be difficult to understand for those not familiar with the story of Leda in Greek mythology. That's how it was for me. After reading up on it, everything then fell into place. But again loved your analogy. Get it copywrited, then published and then follow up with a sequel! ![]() |

LOL Joe: I think I should have been more clear in my initial review when I said the movie was accessible and could be enjoyed by anyone. I should have said by anyone into arthouse films. Because it’s definitely an art film. I was comparing it to stuff like Eraserhead, which I’m not sure even has a plot, but art film fans loved anyway. Some other art films have left me totally baffled and bored, but I found this one compelling. (To be honest, I didn’t think anyone not into art films would even read the thread, but I forgot that us 3D fans will watch anything 3D.)
