Though stuff to deal with.
The original show has one of the most solid fanbase, and it is really hard today to write a show about themes such as distrust of the government and conspiracy theories.

I love the mood of the original series, and I'd be happy with a more of the same if they just could keep it.

First make Coogler watch all the horrible reboots of the 4400, Charmed, Gossip Girl, Velma, etc. and maybe he'll have second thoughts.

X-Files is my favourite show of all time, I love it.
That said, I won't write this off just yet....I'll watch it first....

Whoever said writing is more important is bang on, get the story and tone right and it could be good times

Exactly. X-files is my number one show as well. There have been successful re boots... Star Trek comes to mind; if the writing is good, I'll watch.

I'm not sure what a new show can add tbh.

The original series, the movies, and the extra seasons covered a lot. Then you have Fringe and Supernatural which also covered a lot of similar ground to some of The X Files' core tenets.

I think it’s VERY easy to write a show about government distrust and conspiracy theories. A large portion of the population still believes we are not experiencing a pandemic. There are currently lots of theories about UFOs.

As long as it’s not black alien goo, I’ll tune in. I was a little disappointed with seasons 10 & 11.

I loved the monster of the week episodes myself. Those were creepy and self contained. I’d like to think that Firewalker inspired The Last of Us.

Calling it now.

Mulder has become an Alex Jones type. The good diverse X-Files people have to arrest him for disinformation. That's the first season. Then probably because there has to be a twist, at the end of the first season, the X-Files team will learn that - shock - aliens are real.

I'll call it:

The X-Files 2: X Rides Again

(X gon give it to ya plays over the credits)

I'm just happy I can afford to be indifferent about this since the legacy of the show has already been tarnished several times over with the questionable post-Duchovny era (which was not without good episodes here and there), a dreadful second film, and the woefully inadequate, mostly terrible limited series/reboot. I hate to say it, but the best path forward for this franchise would certainly be without Chris Carter.

Love The X-Files. I do wonder if it's of its time though. After season 9 and a second movie, I was hoping for a satisfying resolution to the alien mythology and thought the two new limited series (series 10 & 11) led by Chris Carter was largely poor. The alien mythology became so convoluted and then Chris Carter decided to sort of ignore it from memory - a slap in the face. I hate to say it too but I think I agree with you that Chris Carter had his chance.

The X-Files was framed as Mulder's story and they strung it out too long, particularly over resolving his sister's arc. Fair to say that seasons 1-5 and the first movie end the syndicate plot well. I still enjoy the remaining seasons but it wasn't ultimately accepted by everyone and the show came to an end. I think rebooting The X-Files would be like rebooting Star Trek. Coogler did very well with Creed and honouring the Rocky character, so I would like it to try and continue in that direction and build on the history. There were a couple of episodes where the original helmer of The X-Files, Arthur Dale, cameoed. I liked those episodes. Perhaps Duchovny and Anderson, if they can't be persuaded to return, can at least cameo. I don't want to see Mulder and Scully played by different actors.

I doubt it. The archetype of his flavor of conspiracy weirdo is way too toxic. His theories are less "They're putting spy radios in your dental fillings" and more "These real child murders were faked as a means to pass gun control legislation." WAY more actually upsetting and less fun. If they want even a chance to endear the character to an audience it's best to steer very clear of that comparison entirely.

The issue I see, is how farcical real life has become. Conspiracy theorists nowadays believe things more ludicrous than any TV writer could ever dream up.

That's the point. Usually networks, writers and so on "pander" the other portion of the population.

With how shady the Govt. Is now I’d think making a show about distrust of them ought to be a piece of cake. I don’t buy into any conspiracy theories as they tend to just be silly. But general distrust of government? Like…. Hell yeah. How can one not?

It’s been forever since I watched the original show. IIRC, as usual with shows that run so long, it started to lose steam after a while. Maybe if anything I’d watch the original show. This new one looks to be a box check marathon.
