I noticed there has been a drop in activity on steelbooks, less posts/discussions maybe the last year or even longer. I noticed the D&D steelbook is on preorder and usually by the time I see that there is already a post and pages of discussions. So far nothing for D&D steelbook. Even the last post for this one was from 4/11 and Shazam was 4/4.

Anyway, BB gave me a $5 coupon...not sure why as i have zero points with them. Trying to figure out if to use it on Ant-Man or Shazam. But I know not using on D&D at the $39.99 price-point! Yeah I know, Ant-Man is only a $1 less & Shazam $3.
I got that $5 coupon too.

High cost, poor quality control, and low stock have people falling out of love with the hobby...

Also possibly COVID-related... I know my spending on movies cut way down when not that much was coming out and I shifted my notice towards other things

The high cost is very prevalent right now. I opted for Ant-Man to use my BB $5 coupon, partly because it releases soonest, and not even sure would have bought it at $39 w/out it.
There is not even a thread for the Mario Walmart star case and the 4K version preorder is sold out. I skipped Black Adam and looks like going to skip Shazam and D&D. I also think every title now is getting a steelbook and before it was just specific movies which drew attention when they did release. Target has even drastically limited their digibooks. I recall when it was a big decision for some which to get and many bought both.
But yes, the quality of the steelbooks these days are terrible. The art is just aweful.

High cost and poor quality control are factors for me. I'm tired of paying $40 for steelbooks and getting damaged ones and/or scratched discs.

Those and the quality of the films themselves. Maybe I'm just getting older and getting more picky ("meh, I've already seen something so similar to that film over the years"). In my opinion, it's a sad year when a film like Everything Everywhere All at Once wins best film. It was okay - but movie of the year?! I honestly couldn't wait for it be over.

Storage space is another reason I'm buying less. I have to be more picky/selective with what I buy.

I am with you there on 'Everything Everywhere All at Once'. Maybe i'm "old" now but my daughter thought it was very good. I thought it was about 40min too long! Definitely not worth a steelbook purchase.
Ant-Man might be one of the few steels I will buy brand new this year and might wait to get others months after release on secondary market
for way cheaper.

Same. Trust in store way more than mail (dreading the 'delay with your order we might cancel it' message)

I quite disliked this movie but I think I'm gonna break down and get the steel. It just looks so awesome. I don't know. It's a pricey month. Maybe I'll wait and see if it's still out later. I do love the cover though. Looks amazing.

Just got my shipping notice. From about 100 miles away.

Could be here Saturday or maybe Monday via post office.

EDIT: Mine arrived today (Saturday). Excellent condition, packed in a box.

All the recent Marvel and DC steelbooks sit for months not even selling when on sell with the one exception being Spider-Man and it got a reprint .
Makes me gun shy of paying almost $40 for a middling movie .
Still a sucker so probably will buy it .
Just my take on it all .

Even though it’s pricey I do like the Scott Lang character a lot. So just grin and bear it and pre ordered

Will this be another Wakanda Forever, Eternals, Wonder Woman, and Black Adam where they'll still have it 6 months later at huge discounts? Movie was very bland, so I'll pass.
