well, guess i'll go into hiding now...

but it legit might be possible the doctor does prefer the french dvd. (admit i've never seen a dvd of this film. but have bought the blu ray.)

maybe in the same way music fans prefer certain tube amps/tube types that are lush and romantic sounding.

even if this isn't an accurate presentation of what the music is like. or how was it recorded.

and we've definitely seen people prefer the color grading etc. of different releases even if the image quality is worse.

and it does seem the french dvd is hmm "unique" enough that he'd wish that's the blu ray look like.

maybe there was some "creative interpretation" going on with the french dvd. or maybe they thought that was good approach to get a good disc. while dealing with dvd limitations. i don't know...

so, i'm going to cut the doctor a bit of slack in preferring the look of the french disc...

however it seems the doctor has a big back log of comments/views on discs. that the forum has had more than enough of.

and his view on the 'millennium mambo' disc, is another straw a camels back. that's far beyond beyond broken.

i can get how many feel that way...

curious, is there anything in his reviews that people on the site actually like ?

It's not preference. He's just bad at his job. He praises discs with clear encoding issues (Criterion, some Shout UHDs). He dislikes color grades that are more accurate to the source (Three Colors UHDs). He lets his political opinions dictate his film reviews, never once thinking he might be misinterpreting what the film is saying.

We've seen this from him many times. He's just a bad, heavily biased reviewer that's hurting the website.

In fairness, I think the other reviewers are much worse.

I think they're all different levels of bad. But at least the others don't cling to 20+ year old DVD masters as the gold standard in home video.
