I'm assuming she said that with the expectation of the strike being over by next year but hopefully they reach a fair deal soon either way

Haha, yeah I had to check myself! He is not only very much alive but he just retired from teaching 2 years ago. From wikipedia...

"Until his retirement in 2021, Astin was director of the Theater Arts and Studies Department and Homewood Professor of the Arts at Johns Hopkins University, his alma mater, which offers an undergraduate minor program. Commenting on his dual career, he said in 2007, "I don't know one major university that has a known actor teaching every day." Astin noted that he is one of only a handful to earn a drama degree from Hopkins. He taught at Hopkins from 2001 until 2021. Devika Bhise has been working with the university to create "The Astin Fund", an endowed chair that would allow theater to be a major at Johns Hopkins University for undergraduates."

Rock On with this D23-Exclusive Pin Celebrating 20 Years of Freaky Friday (2003)

Crack open those fortune cookies and tune up those electric guitars, Freaky Friday (2003) is turning 20 years old this year! And D23 Gold Members can celebrate this beloved comedy in style, with a Gold Member exclusive pin themed to Anna Coleman’s band Pink Slip. We know you’re excited, but could you, like, chill for a sec? We have even more special details to share about this fun and FREAKY pin!

Inspired by Freaky Friday (2003) - Dr. Tess Coleman and her teenage daughter Anna have one thing in common—they don’t relate to each other about anything. Then one night a little mystic mayhem changes their lives and they wake up to the biggest freak-out ever. Tess and Anna are trapped inside each other’s bodies! But Tess’ wedding is Saturday and the two must find a way to switch back—fast! Forced to literally walk in each other’s shoes, will they gain respect and understanding for the other’s point of view?

It's a bit sad these are the anniversary releases we're getting but hey, I guess it's better than nothing! and this one does look cool at least, hopefully Pink Slip are back in the sequel too (and Disney releases an EP or something like they should've the first time around -- and "Take Me Away" finally becomes available for streaming everywhere)

Looks like there's an exclusive Disneyland fortune cookie pin for the anniversary too: https://www.ebay.com/itm/195914808886

THR has a great article today to celebrate 20 years of the release: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/mo...el-1235538406/

The producer and the director actually talk a bit about what they've heard in terms of the sequel's story (seems like things could be a lot more advanced than we might've thought?!) also most of the original cast appears to have fond memories and be game if they're asked to return so that's nice too.

Lindsay confirmed it is currently in the works.

Lohan, 37, tells PEOPLE the new movie is “in the process,” but she could not say when filming would start or if there even is a completed script. However, the Irish Wish star could say she was “just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it.”
“Because we talk almost every other day in general, so I think we're going to have a lot of fun with this,” Lohan continues.

Lohan has had way too much work done, she looks almost unrecognisable these days IMO.

Nisha Ganatra is directing and filming will begin this summer. No word yet on if it will be a theatrical film or Disney+ original.

Freaky Friday Star Hopes to Return for Sequel

Quote:
Freaky Friday has remained a unique part of the Disney tapestry, with the 2003 live-action film only growing more beloved in the ensuing years. Outside of the two stars, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, there has naturally been the question of who from Freaky Friday's ensemble cast could return for the sequel — and it sounds like one star is definitely on board. Rosalind Chao, who portrayed Pei-Pei in Freaky Friday, recently indicated to ComicBook.com that she would be more than willing to reprise her role for a hypothetical Freaky Friday 2.

"Of course!" Chao explained in our interview for Netflix's 3 Body Problem, which you can check out above. "That was such a fun experience. First of all, I love Mark Waters, the director, so much. I love everybody on that so much that — I will give you a little tidbit. So when we filmed Freaky Friday, I loved all those people so much that I even came back and gave them a freebie day to film that wedding thing that kind of went viral on TikTok, because I just liked hanging with them."

Chao also revealed the inspiration for her character in Freaky Friday, revealing that, "Sometimes I got some grief about doing the accent in that. In fact, I was playing my dad, who is that lady in the restaurant. He's just like that."
