Checked out the PQ, it's pretty good for the most part except the dupey parts like the initial titles. Sound is rough, but serviceable.

I got an e-mail last Thursday to say it was shipping. Not much point in checking the Italian site it's not in English!

Well... it's kind of shit, isn't it?
The think I like best about this release is the artwork. There rest: - PQ is good for the most part, but some sections have seen so much damage that it seems it wasn't fully possible to restore, plus the restoration seems to have left weird artifacts behind. Seems like the label took on more work than they were realistically able to do properly. - Audio is bad, and also maybe has a too great of a dynamic range? Not sure, but initially I had to turn it down and later I had to turn it up in more quiet sections, resulting in very loud noisy parts later. - The movie itself is ... a Mario Bava western. A great director of gothic horror and even thrillers, but no eye for westerns at all. Both the westerns (or were there more?) and his Dr. Goldfoot movie are his worst. - The extras are ... bad. Only 11 or so minutes in total (8 + 3) barely going into any detail that isn't obvious. Filmed as what seems like a single shot, not well lit, edited really badly, with jarringly timed burned in subtitles. I think I'm done with this label until they prove they deserve my attention. But nevertheless I'm very glad to own another Bava movie. |

Finishing my review for the SWDb right now, probably publishing it tomorrow. There's really only a 5min stretch in the middle where PQ drops markedly, the rest is okay, but features Malombra's signature "I am watching this with my sunglasses on" color balance, and there's plenty of shots that look mediocre. Overall satisfactory, and there's an audio commentary and some interviews. The audio isn't great, that's true, but if you watch a lot of average and sub average spaghetti westerns, like I do, you'll know this is pretty much the common standard. I hope they up their restoration game at Malombra, I am always happy with niche films getting their due on HD, and for a tiny label this really isn't too bad.

Has there been any updates from Malombra regarding upcoming titles or are they done?
