Watched "Legend" (FullHD Blu-ray) yesterday with my family (both my wife and my children really enjoyed "Mask") and they were rather disappointed to learn, that there won't be a third.

AFAIK, for Europe there are these UHD versions:

La máscara del Zorro (Spanish release) -contains multiple language versions: "Turco (Dolby Digital 5.1), Húngaro (Dolby Digital 5.1), Alemán (DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1), Ruso (Dolby Digital 5.1), Castellano (DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1), Checo (Dolby Digital 5.1), Español (Dolby Digital 5.1), Tailandés (Dolby Digital 5.1), Portugués (Dolby Digital 5.1), Hindi (Dolby Digital 5.1), Francés (DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1), Inglés (DTS-HD High Res Audio), Italiano (DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1)"

Le Masque de Zorro (French release, Steelbook option) - contains multiple language versions: "Français (DTS-HD 5.1), Italien (DTS-HD 5.1), Anglais (DTS-HD 5.1), Castillan (DTS-HD 5.1), Hongrois (Dolby Digital 5.1), Thaï (Dolby Digital 5.1), Tchèque (Dolby Digital 5.1), Portugais (Dolby Digital 5.1), Allemand (Dolby Digital 5.1)"

La Maschera Di Zorro (Italian release, Steelbook option) - contains multiple language versions: "Italiano (DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1), Tedesco (DTS 5.1), Inglese (DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1)"

Strange there is no German release (yet), one German Amazon reviewer claimed that the Spanish version does also contain English in Dolby Atmos ("DD TrueHD 7.1"), so that's the one I'd probably take.

(WTF, Hearts in Atlantis with Anthony Hopkins only available as Spanish Blu-ray with German audio track ?!?)

I couldn't locate any announcement on the European Amazon webpages for "Legend" in UHD, keeping my fingers crossed that Germany will receive a combo pack including both films in 4k UHD.

P.S. Still looking for the multi-channel soundtrack SACD of "Legend", there appears to be one copy available from Poland but the seller asks for whopping 300 Euros!

Seeing this with a slip kind of makes me like that standard edition's case and slip for consistency, unless they do a SteelBook of this one also.
The steelbook added Dolby Vision, a couple of player-generated subtitles were replaced with burned-in ones, and the end credits popup menu was removed.

Indeed, though if The Fifth Element and The Equalizer are any indication, they might be moving toward straightforward repackagings.

I'm still really hoping for a Dolby Vision disc release of The Dark Crystal, though.

Man did he ever. He took the less used secondary Zorro theme from the first and gave it the spotlight for this one, and gave the orchestra much more of a workout than the first. I actually prefer this one to the first (score). The 5.1 SACD is also great.

This is not a "nothing" movie. It's more like Jaws 2 to Jaws 1. Or Ghostbusters 2 etc etc... Not as good as the first, but as a swashbuckling adventure it's very much a fun time.

I actually would love an alternate version where the deleted bookend scenes were added in. It was initially a story told thru a grown up Joaquin's point of view who at the end turns out to be the next Zorro that took over for his dad, Alejandro. Since there's no more films coming, those would make more or a proper finale.

Yeah this is a solid sequel, the first one is fantastic but this one definitely holds its own.

Difference being that Jaws 2 and Ghostbusters 2 didn't kill the franchise the way Legend of Zorro did. They even changed the original ending to leave the door open for more Banderas/Zeta-Jones sequels.

A better comparison would probably be Speed 2 or Kick-Ass 2.

I guess they had the good sense to quit while they were ahead.

I really don't see how that's relevant to my comparison in terms of quality. Gremlins 2 killed the franchise as well.

Using "Ghostbusters 2" as an example of a sequel that didn't "kill the franchise"..... because there was a reboot 27 years later and a sequel (that pretty much ignored "Ghostbusters 2") 32 years later?

Zorro still has time, I guess.

Ghostbusters 2 didn't kill the franchise tho, it was still a massive hit and generated a lot of merchandise. What killed it was the cast who couldn't come to terms on making another one, specifically Bill Murray.

What killed the franchise was waiting SEVEN YEARS to release a sequel...and then dropping it on the weekend before Halloween. had it come out around 2000/2001 and been given a summer release slot, it would have done better.

Also, again this seems to elude Hedrox, but my comparison was in terms of quality not franchise durability.

With how much Hollywood LOVES to use nostalgia these days to make money, I wouldn't be surprised if they made a third film one day that brings back Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones as the older parent mentors.

That's EXACTLY what the original wraparound segments were pretty much setting up! They could still do it, with a younger actor playing their son as the new Zorro.

Xolo Maridueña! He would be great as Joaquin if Blue Beetle doesn't pan out.
