It is part of the Columbia Collection IV. I'm still hoping there is an individual release coming.

"Dolby Atmos, approved by Paul Thomas Anderson"

Doesn't PTA hate object based audio? He didn't do it for Licorice Pizza nor his Netflix short. And he was reportedly furious when Universal included the DTS:X track for Phantom Thread.

Source? This sounds as dubious as how he dislikes 4K releases.

I’m still waiting on the source of him hating 4K.

Came here exactly for this... have any of the films included in the previously released set received individual releases?

I’m almost betting that Criterion will get to Upgrade it to 4K UHD much like they did for Last Picture Show after Sony released it in their limited box set.

Super excited to see that it has a 5/5 for video! Can't wait to read the full review! It's one of my favorite movies. Might just have to buy the box set now!

Has anyone had a chance to watch this release yet? Or is there any word as to its quality?

It's a real shame that just because Sony figured out how to milk physical media fans by shoving many important/favorite films into an overpriced, limited box set and never releasing them individually.

Looking forward to watching it! According to the included book, the source for both Criterion's and Sony's releases is the same interpositive scan. PTA's goal was to first create a new DCP for theatrical programming that looks like a 35mm print of the film. The HDR grade for the disc is meant to match that look.

I bet Sony's compression on the BD is better than Criterions...

What would be the motivation for Criterion to release it?

The Last Picture Show was previously available only in the BBS boxset, and they added the sequel as a special feature. What could they do for Punch-Drunk Love?

They have not released Dr. Strangelove, Anatomy of a Murder or It Happened One Night.

I just noticed one of the Criterion bonus features that was on their BLU release is also on the Sony 4K. So if anything Sony might drop a single release in 2-3 years.

Gave the disc a watch tonight - it not only looked great but the Dolby Atmos remix is excellent. I forgot Gary Rydstrom was involved with the sound mix

The Criterion blu-ray got 5 stars, and the new blu-ray included in the Columbia boxset got 3.5. The new restored blu-ray looks worse than the 8 year old Criterion disc? I find that hard to believe. (There's no mention of the blu-ray PQ in the review)

Can anyone who has seen the new blu-ray confirm that it's worse than the Criterion one.

...only guessing but perhaps what was considered a 5 star release 8 years ago is now only a 3.5 star due to general advances in picture quality/higher standards/expectations etc.

Both serve equally well as a coaster tho
