As with Legionnaire it was shot as a theatrical feature, but went DTV after the fact.

It's probably why those two stand out from the pack.

Legionnaire popped up on streaming recently. If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself to give it a watch, if you are true JCVD fan. It has an old DVD-era HD master, but it's watchable. If it ever got the 4K treatment, it could be quite stunning.

Update from Retro Gold 63 :

There are 2 good news and 1 bad news!

Good news number 1:
Lionheart is our next YEAR OF THE DRAGON EDITION with 264 pages booklet and gold foil finishing and we are currently working on it.

Good news number 2:
Lionheart will be a 6 disc edition with the soundtrack and poster on top (so 7 discs in total (6 discs in the mediabook and the soundtrack separately on top).
We also have support from the director of the film Sheldon Lettich who has already given us a very good interview and provided all the original storyboards and all the original call sheets which we will use for our booklet and so it will be the most authentic Lionheart Edition ever.

Bad news:
The 4K scan turned out disappointing and we are releasing the film with the best 2k master available

Jean-Claude Van Damme is our favourite actor and Sheldon Lettich our favourite director and Lionheart is even our favourite film of our two favourites and so we really want to create something very special!

Lionheart will go on pre-sale as soon as the Year of the Dragon Edition of No Retreat No Surrender is released!

Wasn't this gonna be a DigiDreams job and they DNRs all their discs to hell and back? (if it isn't, my bad). I knew this seemed iffy with no buzz after the announcement, glad to hold on to the MVD disc I paid full price for a bit longer. The best 2k master available is probably exactly what MVD already put out, which doesn't look all that great imo. Between this and the three MGM Van Damme titles (Cyborg, Death Warrant, and Double Impact), those look way way better than Lionheart to me on Blu ray.

DigiDreams guy only has an old theatrical print available. I'm pretty sure they scanned it or upscaled the already existing master and realized it doesn't look good. They could've asked Lettich where to find OCN or Interpositive apparently they weren't smart enough to do that

4k won't happen. Retrogold 63 announced that the quality of the 4k scan was too bad and they will go with a blu-ray only using "the best 2k master available".

I bet they tried to use the same theatrical print of the international version that was used for DigiDreams'/84' Entertainment's first Blu-ray or to do an AI upscale of their existing 2k master.
