I hope BDA ban Paramount and Universal and not allow them to produce movies in Blu-ray. Let them suffer...

Hey... ST is my drug... Paramount was my dealer. A pretty lousy dealer that shunned our particular street corner, but if Paramount moves back... fine.. Paramount sells good $hit

I think the BDA needs paramount more than Paramount needs them. DVDs still far outsell BD's or for that matter, DUDs too. At most they would be losing a couple hundred million in a year without any hi-def media, which isn't a lot for these huge companies. I know they won't just pull-out completely, but it's laughable to think they care that much about high-def media. Yes they did get paid 150 million by Toshicrosoft, but that just shows how much they don't care. They'll jump sides for money not product. Put it this way, I love a lot of paramount movies. Bill Hunt predicts they'll come around late March, early April. That's great! But I think they will care much more about what they release on BD once the general public has HDTV's in most of their homes. Right now it is just a niche market, although a niche I'm proud to be a part of!

That would be just silly. As a movie fan I want movies from both of those studios.

Default How long before Uni/Para/Dream (all 3) announce BD support?

Not just one, but how long until Universal/Paramount/Dreamworks announce some kind of support for BD?

I expect Universal to be last, but even so I'll say end of the week.

I just want to make clear to anyone reading that the poll is when they make the announcement that they will support. They don't actually have to announce titles or a release date. An announcement like "we intend to support eventually" counts as an announcement

I think paramount / Dreamworks will just slither back into the market by unlocking that warehouse of theirs. Universal will have a lot of work to do to release on BD as they have not done so yet. Maybe Universal will need a bit of sulking time too... or a boardroom cleanout.

Universal may delay as a "face saving measure", but remember they should have been alerted to this quite some time ago, and we have been hearing rumours that they have been investigating BD for a while. OTOH, if true that they believe their movies need some restoration and re-encodes, they would look stupid announcing support immediately, but no titles until Oct. (as an example).

They have (so I believe) statements coming out today. I'd be surprised if they didn't make some comment about Blu-ray support.

With Toshiba support gone is there really any point dragging this nonsense out for one more minute, let alone one more day?

Let's hope those two dummies are on their way to make a press statement.

Have to disagree with you there.

First of all they already look stupid backing a format that now has no hardware manufacturers behind it.

They can't announce future HD DVD titles because nobody will sell them. luckily, after American Gangster, Universal only have 'Fletch' on their schedule.

They can't say nothing because that's the same as giving up and will make them look even more stupid.

So they have to be positive. Announce Blu-ray support and give an indication when they will start releasing titles. When that is is not too important, but they have to signal their intentions. Not for our benefit but for the benefit of shareholders.

We'll have a better idea later today.

I voted that they will make an announcement by the 29/02/08. But hopefully it will be by the end of this week. Here's hoping.

Well this is all that is left to be resolved I suppose.

I see no reason for them to delay, it's not like the Toshiba announcement was a big surprise at this point.

I say by the end of the week.

They will be absolutely dogged by the media until they make an announcement. They know that, so I voted that they'll say something today, although it could be kind of skimpy on details.
