Lots of people express this frustration.
I understand your point, but opinions vary. I would not choose UHD over BD and UHD is not ”the format I really wanted”. Blu-ray is more than good enough format for me, costs less and I don’t have any of that UHD upgrade frustration that many seem to have.

And for those reasons I feel buying blu-rays is not a waste of money.

Well of course for those that have no interest in UHD, this release is great. But for those who prefer UHD, it's frustrating because you don't want to skip the blu-ray just in case it doesn't get a UHD, even though you know it's highly likely it will get one since it's a new 4k master. This has been a release strategy for a while now with certain labels - release the blu-ray first, then the UHD next year. It sucks re-buying the film again just 6 months or a year later when you could have held off for the UHD if you knew one was coming.

That Blarp thing alone ruins the film for me since so much time is spent on it, and the Doctor Smith spider thing is ridiculous. There's some fun here but it's overall a really bad film.

I still enjoy it too. The cast was pretty impressive for its time, and the story was pretty good too. It was actually this movie that knocked Titanic off its #1 spot, resulting in it being nicknamed "The Iceberg".

I'll admit, a good portion of my spending the last few years has been buying newly minted masters of older releases.

I don't buy every single upgrade available, only those I know will get watched more than a handful of times.

It's nice that these titles are getting upgrades, but I'd rather have the option for all formats at the time of release.

And not find out my preferred format is being released a year or more later.

On a trivia note, Mimi Rogers was just 41 years old when she made this movie, and Heather Graham was 27. Not quite enough of a disparity for mother and daughter, huh?

It's called "acting."

How about Angela Lansbury playing Lawrence Harvey's mother when she was only 3 years older than him? No wonder she was Oscar-nominated that year.

I remember them pouring a then 15-year-old Lacey Chabert into that spacesuit, plastering her with make up, and trying to pass it off as wholesome.

It didn't work. It was really awkward.

This was a favorite of mine in school, I remember fans of the show dumped on it for sucking back then, seems like they still do lol. I also remember this was the movie that bumped Titanic in like it's 27th week at #1 (rofl). I would love to grab this, but come on, this was a big budget studio film, 2k scan? Probably another $25 Shout catelogue Blu ray, too. gtfo

I doubt that this is a new scan from the interpositive. As with Cobra and In the Mouth of Madness, they will have gotten the old 2K scan from Warner and simply redone the post-production. In these examples it was also the case that the Blu-ray from Warner had problems (too high contrast) which were solved by Shout Factory, but new problems were added (too much magenta).

The question here is also what the original color grading of Lost in Space looked like, the Warner Blu-ray looks somewhat modernized in the direction of teal and orange.

I think they wanted to make Penny more rebellious, particularly in the film's beginning. This was Lacey's first feature since Party of Five, so she was pretty inexperienced...but overall, I think she sold it well.

minor correction, In the Mouth of Madness, at least according to the cover, was a 4K scan of the OCN but it may have in fact been a recycled older scan

Most Warner licensed titles are from new 2K scans of interpositives. Look at Coma. That's clearly a new scan compared to Warner's old BD release, same with Last Man Standing.
