Just read Dune Messiah again and to be honest, I'm struggling to see how this is going to be made as a big box office film in all honesty!

The momentum and hype coming off of Part Two is what will sell tickets for a third film.

I own the excellent Children of Dune miniseries starring James McAvoy, adapted from the Dune Messiah and Children of Dune novels, and I thought it was a very cinematic adaptation which would easily translate to the big screen.

I can totally understand you doubting that Messiah would be hard to adapt for the big screen but Denis has already laid the groundwork in both parts, he isn’t making Paul a hero but as the way Frank Herbert initially intended for him to be an anti-hero. I don’t think it would bomb at the box office especially since we’re still going to have an A-list star power cast and Denis is a well known filmmaker.

I also own it, but am not so sure about that. It works as a mini-series, but I have my doubts on a feature length film.

Any word on the IMAX 4K UHD of Part 1?

I've been waiting for it since I saw it in IMAX in the cinemas. The regular version feels so small and limited in comparison

No. I would imagine Denis would have to push it, but it never seemed to be a priority of his.

It was clearly framed for Scope.

More than half of Part One is still natively shot in scope, so there’s still a somewhat valid reason for them simply sticking with that aspect ratio outside of Imax theaters.

Part Two, while composed for scope, is still entirely protected for 1.9:1.

As much as I love IMAX theatres (GT and non-GT), I can't help but admit that Scope is way more aesthetically pleasing.

I understand where you are coming from, but I believe this director could make it be amazing. He contracts where he should and expands elements where he should. The new factions would be quite intriguing. I would say Children of Dune could easily be abridged, and I wish he would stick with it through God Emperor.

The IMAX sections were mostly for the space stuff, the scale of the ships was incredible in IMAX and feels far smaller in scope at home.

I didn't realize this premieres on March 1st. Haven't been to the movies in a while and been needing an excuse to go and this is it. I'm not into the mythology of any part of this series but I do enjoy a good, rousing sci-fi epic and I did enjoy the first part quite a bit as a great standalone sci-fi flick. That, and the Director is a wunderkind IMO.

3.01 is the "official" release date, but those early screenings are a standard practice now.

I got dead center on the XD screen just like I did for the first film.

Going early to a “fan first preview” on the 25th, then a laser 1.43 IMAX on the first. Before all that, seeing Part One again tonight. I’m gonna have sand in my shorts for weeks.

This was many years ago, but God Emperor was the last book I read in the series. Totally killed my interest in reading any further. My memory is hazy on the books, but there are a couple real weird details about God Emperor that have further stuck in my brain. I think the first couple books are challenging enough to film, God Emperor is so out there man.

If part two does well enough for Messiah, I wonder if they will call it Messiah or just part three since Denis is kind of treating it like a trilogy?
