I liked Rise.

Here's hoping this also turns out well.

I really enjoyed Rise. The opening sequence seemed weirdly out of place, and we're spinning our wheels doing Evil Dead 1 over and over again, especially after Ash Vs Evil Dead finally started moving forward with the Evil Dead lore in one way or another.

The 2013 remake just felt like OTT horrific torture porn, Rise felt like it got the balance right between horror and big silly impact gags. New directors seem to think Evil Dead is nothing but torturous hyper gore when it mostly uses violence as impactful action or a punchline.

Still, any Evil Dead news is good news! They seem to be going for stand alone films now. That will only last so long. The series imo, needs a protagonist to replace Bruce if he won't do another. I'd prefer that to be 2013's Ash.
The original Evil Dead is all about the charismatic hero dealing with the Evil Dead in his funny style and attitude, and I agree, that is completely missing from Evil Dead reboot and Evil Dead Rise so far. This girl had potential at the very end with the garage scene, but the magic is missing in my opinion and this could easily mix with other horror genre films about possession if it was give a title like "The Dead Rise", or "Book of Evil" or something other than being called Evil Dead.

It is funded by Raimi and Tapert, along with Campbell himself, so they are giving these films their approval. These reboot Evil Dead films are just missing a major piece of the puzzle is all.

They could stay with grueling horror and still have a lead hero like Ash from Evil Dead 1 and 2. Army of Darkness was really over the top 3 Stooges, but Ash VS Evil Dead got back to Evil Dead 2 style more, and was mostly very good.

I know some really like the more serious, no nonsense tone of this reboot series. Finding another Ash character would be tough, but no reason we can't get a returning hero lady who brings her own personality.

The original wasn't supposed to be like that. It was made and intended to be dead serious. Raimi and Campbell have talked ad nauseam about how the fans have made it funny but it isn't supposed to be humorous. ED2 onward w/ Ash? Sure. You got your humor and charm. But the original is only humorous at time cuz it's a bunch of young people trying to make something serious. The 2013 did nothing wrong in taking itself serious within the chaotic ridiculousness.

More Evil Dead movies are always welcome.

[Show spoiler]

Please continue to include the use of the chainsaw, as they are my favorite part of the movie.

That's true, the humorous side of him in Evil Dead 2. He still had a lot of personality in part 1 thankfully.

Ash vs Evil Dead, it was cool to see his sister Cheryl return in the series. I have to see again if the others returned but it's been awhile since I saw the full series, which I have on blu ray. I thought the ending was satisfying for Ash, and I know some wanted a 4th season but I think they covered all the bases for a series that felt complete.

I like the 2013 film, but I’m in agreement that “Rise” seems to maintain that dark humor the previous films had. I LOL’d quite a few times during “Rise.”

2013 film, i squirm a lot

Filming Is Underway On the New ‘Evil Dead’ Movie

Quote:
We are almost exactly one year away from the Evil Dead franchise’s return to the big screen with Evil Dead Burn, and we’ve learned that production has officially kicked off this week.

Evil Dead Burn is being directed by Sébastien Vaniček (Infested), and Warner Bros. will unleash the film in theaters on July 24, 2026. Check out Vaniček’s on-set update below!

Sébastien Vaniček co-wrote the screenplay for Evil Dead Burn with Florent Bernard.

Hunter Doohan (“Wednesday”), Luciane Buchanan (“The Night Agent”), and Tandi Wright (Pearl) are set to star opposite Souheila Yacoub (Dune: Part Two) in Evil Dead Burn.
