For those complaining about the prices... In the good old days, any bare-bones LaserDisc would retail for $39.95 (adjusted for inflation, that would be about $70 today). A deluxe special edition could easily surpass $125 (or about $200+ in today's dollars). All of that for composite 425i video plagued with analog artifacts.

Helps keep things in perspective.

Yes, these are not cheap, but neither is the cost to produce them, I assume. Whether the films themselves warrant such deluxe treatment or not, that is a different matter.

When they're charging £29.99 (which will reduce to £24.99 on the site) for the 'standard' editions, a £14.99/15.00 markup for a slip, poster and booklet is high (especially when previous to this 'new' website exclusive business for 88, the booklet and poster would be included with the standard release).

Printing costs have exploded in the last 3-4 years. That rigid case costs a pretty penny to produce, I'm sure. I assume that (and the booklet, etc.) is where the bulk of the price difference goes. Since this is also a small print run, costs are even higher (ie: the bigger your print run, the lower the per-unit cost is... but 1000 units is considered a small amount and the per-unit cost is normally quite high). Again, these are just my assumptions.

Then there's what the market will bear. In the US, Severin charged $55 for their Dellamorte Dellamore special edition, and that did *not* even have a rigid case. It was just a flimsy outer case. It sold out in no time. Vinegar Syndrome's prices are very high, too. But they also sell out. So somebody out there feels that buying these at those prices is ok, and labels follow suit. They are, after all, a business.

I still think the price is reasonable, all things considered.

What you said is true, but you missed the part where you didn't need a 2nd job to heat your house in the winter and eat back then.

I ordered this and Absurd from Atomic so I won't get the slips but I have the Indiegogo campaign editions with these same slips so I'll use those if I can. These are both high on my wantlist.

I know what you're saying, but my point is that 88 were doing this for the 'standard' editions which would come with a slipcase, poster and booklet and charging £24.99/29.99 for it.

Now they are putting a huge markup on these as a webstore exclusive forcing people to stump up the extra £15 to get the poster and booklet (with a limited slipcase) that would've otherwise been included in the standard initial limited release.

Thankfully I'm not interested in either this or Absurd, but if they start doing this with their HK line, then I'll have some tough choices to make

Now live.

Add this and Absurd to your cart and it’ll automatically take off £10 from the total

Awesome! I was pretty sure I would buy both anyway, but this solidified the idea!

This is probably my most anticipated release right now. I’m practically chewing my guts out wondering if they’ll be confronted with damaged source materials, with color fluctuations, heavy fading, yellowing/stains, etc, and if so, how successfully it will be dealt with. I can’t remember whether the ocn itself was reported to be in poor shape years ago, or whether other “best available elements” used at the time were the culprit on prior blu ray releases. Hopefully they also tweak the gamma and relax the contrast for the upcoming 4k’s master, giving us a more natural, slightly moodier palette but without introducing crush or solidification. This is a tough one to wait for. I feel 88 can get this done right, and deliver a solid encode to boot. Fingers (and intestines) crossed.

After the Hell of the Living Dead fiasco (an arduous process which I personally experienced) I’m just hopeful this turns out well and without issues. I preordered it and Absurd from Atomic but I’m thinking maybe I should’ve ordered these direct from 88 in case there’s another issue. At least with 88 I won’t have to worry about replacement programs.

Purchased both. I suppose with the 10 quid knocked off it isn't completely obscene. I mean I paid £50 for the Second Sight TCM release so I guess nice limited editions sets are just expensive these days...

"You can only add 994 Anthropophagous - The Italian Collection 07 (UHD + Blu-ray) - WEBSITE EXCLUSIVE EDITION to the cart."

Surely they've sold more than 6 copies of this edition, right?!

How sure of that are you though? The 88Films website itself specifically states in the listing:

"WEBSITE EXCLUSIVE FEATURES
LIMITED EDITION RIGID SLIPCASE WITH ORIGINAL VHS ARTWORK
LIMITED EDITION DOUBLE SIDED A3 POSTER
LIMITED EDITION 40 PAGE PERFECT BOUND BOOK"

Because I will be extremely upset with how much money I spent on both this and Absurd if their "Exclusive" claim is fake.

Well all that has been in ALL the other releases... why would that change? Idpoubt they will make diffrent booklets fot the diffremt releases other than changing the cover to match the speciel artwork. And then for the standard release they will be just regular amaray lika always. Doubt they will charge $38-40 on amazon without getting that. My guess is that only the VHS artwork is what is "exclusive"

It’s not been confirmed yet but considering the price difference, I can’t see them justifying £15 for just alternative artwork. I hope they don’t, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the ‘regular’ editions are just discs, case and potentially a slipcase.

Did the regular version of Amityville come with anything?

I had the same thought but could only find the LE on their website.

Well, if it means anything, I can add 2000 copies of Amityville, which is also limited to 1000 copies, so…

Christ on a bicycle, this has been a brutally long slog of a wait. Are we really still half a month away? June has been hot as all hades, and is dragging azz like a broke-back hound. C'mon 88, don't fudge this one. That would be unnecessary cruelty beyond measure. You have the chops to make this happen. I'm literally almost cringing waiting for this to drop. Still with no hard news on the source of the new transfer, I can't decide if I should be excited or terrified for one of my old Itali-gore favorites.....
