Police Story is a Hong Kong classic that will be remembered forever.

Don't be ignorant. Take into context the culture and time period it was made for. Not sure where you're from but for me? PS wasn't made for a Mexican American male and that's perfectly fine. It's a HK film made primarily for HK audiences.

I'll start by saying that I'm a huge fan of HK film. I own a few hundred on disc and have seen many more than that. I've also collected a few thousand lobby cards and posters.

Eric is entitled to his opinion as much as you Mr. Chaverria. To say he is ignorant on a subject that is subjective seems harsh. As I stated, I love HK films but also find a lot of the overt comedy not to my liking.

I am not big fan of slapstick either so found New Police Story (which is non comedic like Island) better movie than PS overall. Darker tone and action is good.

but it does..

it follows the formular of the time,
Big action opening then 75 percent filler slapstick skipable comedy then action end scene.

dragons forever, twin dragons to name a few recent 88 HK JC movies.

my initial post was to check to see if the film in question follows this formular.

Don't forget the bit in Island of Fire where all the death row prisoners dress up as clowns and stage a custard pie fight...

Slapstick, yes; trash, absolutely not. 75% skippable filler, nope. Jackie hit the perfect tone with this film.

Custard pies are banned in Hong Kong.

I only remember the scene when they pull down the guards' trousers and force them to play tuba with their butts. The most hilarious moment is when Sammo Hung says to Jackie: "I guess we found Officer Tuba."

This sounds to me like they were not allowed to do SD inserts into the HD master, so that the Taiwan cut will be included SD only, like it was on the German BD.

Hopefully the deleted scenes are in a separate extra as well as having the full Taiwanese cut if possible.

It's nice to have the option to view them after watching the HD movie rather than only being able to see them in a full SD copy of the film.

I'm really looking forward to this release, shame to see the distributors are not being as forthcoming with 88 Films requests, same as Fist Of Legend.

88 Films has done so well with other titles (look how many glorious audio options there were on Armour Of God!) so I wonder if something has changed at Fortune Star or such?

Some of these licences (like ISLAND OF FIRE, FIST OF LEGEND, SO CLOSE or some of the Win's Entertainment stuff) are not from Fortune Star but from other rights holders (e. g. Mei Ah Entertainment, Sony etc.). So there are different companies and different people to deal with when it comes to what is allowed and what not.

It was in relation to people moaning/complaining there was no English dub included on the Fist of Legend release

Is taiwanese version in koch media disc slightly cut? I used to have vhs bootleg ages ago from company named Video Search of Miami and think introduction of Jimmy Wang Yu was longer in that. Can be memory does trick though.

Well at least 88 version will be improved in subtitles instead of having chinglish like in koch release.

Or it could be that they was hoping to do a completely uncut version but couldn't.
The Taiwanese version although nearly 30 minutes longer is still missing 3 scenes from the HK theatrical.
