I am sure Japan will do it eventually. The DVD (which I own) is now OOP along with most of the KADAKAWA DVDs that were released around the same time; Time Stranger and Meikyu Monogatari for instance. It was mentioned in the Discotek thread that Meikyu has a HD master in Japan, I would not be surprised if the other two also have HDTV HD masters. Those DVDs were awesome, they retailed for ¥3000!

Honestly, I am incredibly surprised Kamui no Ken and Time Stranger did not get a BD release early on. Or at least around the time ARION and The Cockpit were released. I just hope that when they come out, they are not scrubbed to death. Another reason I lament the fact they were not released early.

It may happen sooner than you think.

The new HD remaster appears to be already available on MyCanal streaming service:

Great news! I wonder if this a French company scan? Will be very interesting. It would be weird for Kadakawa to ignore such a beloved classic in Japan though. Meh, as long as we get it on BD in all its amazingly animated glory (with grain), I will be happy.

The film is distributed internationally by Toei and the first indications lean toward an upscale of an average tape master.

even for 35mm anime dang, but Kadokawa probably would authorize a new scan & Kadokawa prolly too busy focusing on pitching mid LN adaptations to overworked studios

It sounds like Supreme Ramen-Lord Sevakis wants to take another crack at BGC, which to me, seems like he means "I want to do a 4K release, with Bubblegum Crash, Parasite Dolls, and AD Police!" and that sounds good to me.

Let’s maybe not get too excited over things that weren’t actually said.

The full quote in context:

Quote:
SEVAKIS: AnimEigo is a nostalgia brand in its current state. Most of what they’ve been focusing on are shows that were popular in the VHS era. They’ve only been doing major releases via Kickstarter for the last ten years. There are younger fans who have no idea who the hell we are. That’s something I aim to change.

Younger anime fans are really into ’80s anime aesthetics, and I don’t think the industry has done a great job of rising to meet them. Bubblegum Crisis is AnimEigo’s flagship title, and I hope to do a lot with Bubblegum Crisis and its related spin-off works. Beyond that, I think there’s some good merch we could do.
It’s also worth noting Parasite Dolls is seemingly still licensed by Sentai (via AEsir Holdings.)

OK, my DVD set of BGC consists of the old, 4 disc pink box set for the main series and then I have Crash and AD Police.
Aside from the main reboot, is Parasite Dolls closer to the original series?

PD is a stand-alone spin-off of AD Police. It has no real connectivity to the BGC series, beyond taking place in "the same world" and there's no character connections or overlaps or even any mentioning of what happens in BGC.

Thanks, looks like it's getting pricey on the secondary market so I'll leave that one alone for now.

So, is Justin implying that he's going to try and turn AnimEigo into a BBC majority/focused brand? Kinda like how Discotek pushes Lupin? Cuz if AnimEigo is still going to be a minor specialty label that releases one or two titles a year, does that mean one of both of those titles are going to revolve around BBC? Yikes, if so...
