From a quick glance at eBay, it's still readily available at reasonable prices, at least where I am. Last edited by boffy; 04-06-2024 at 03:55 PM. Reason: Reduced repetition |

Saw this in 1.43 IMAX and had a great time but the video master wasn’t great. They were definitely going for a Beatles Get Back feel, with a lot of grain reduction so it could have a crystal clear digital look to it. At times it did look incredibly clear and detailed, but it also looked smeary and had moments of weirdness with the grain they could not eliminate.I personally would love for these things to just look like film scans.
The audio mix sounded terrific though. Now I’m on the fence between the Blu-ray and the 4K. Atmos will be the same on either version, but I’m wondering if I should pay more for HDR. Not a fan of the DNR in general, but maybe the HDR will make it more palatable to me like Peter Jackson’s 4K “remasters” of King Kong and Lord of the Rings. Or maybe, like The Beatles Get Back, I’m really more in it for the audio, and the 1080p SDR presentation will be good enough (I also saw the Rooftop Concert film in IMAX and it looks indistinguishable from the Blu-ray) |

Some bands refuse to give their permission on releasing their footage.
For example, the Led Zeppelin performance was so botched they view it the same as Lucas views the Star Wars Holiday Special; they want to burn all forms of existence of it. |

Understandable if entire acts were omitted by their own request (like Led Zeplin) but I still don't get why some artists were on old the DVD boxset but not the entire set they played (as an Ultravox fan it's annoying only 2 tracks made it to the DVD boxset when they played 4 tracks on the day).

Yeah, that’s the only other one which could be remastered in legitimate 4k. That said, IIRC the best element they have for it is an interpositive, so it might not be as sharp or clear as QRM where they used the original negative.
Regardless, it’s in the same boat where the only HD version so far has been cropped down to widescreen, so it’d definitely benefit from an open-matte OAR version like this is getting on the new release. Aside from those two, I wish they’d release more SD Blu-rays of their various 70s concerts which were shot on video. They did a couple almost 10 years ago, but they’ve still (arguably) released more concert videos from July of 1986 than the entire decade of the 1970s. Last edited by boffy; 04-28-2024 at 08:58 PM.
