Warner Bros seems to do IMAX more often than not but it's still no guarantee. Dune 1 and 2 and the first two editions of BvS didn't get IMAX scenes. Aquaman 1 and 2, BvS remastered, and all the Nolan stuff did.

Why would this not include the imax ratios on the home 4k release? What's the logic behind studio's doing that

The 5-film set is tempting but it's practically guaranteed there will be a sixth film now, so I don't think I'll go for it. There will be another set once the next film is out, and maybe even more after that. This franchise has proven itself to have unexpected longevity and I don't expect it to end until the films stop making money.

Probably because the Director said No. Was likely obligated to film in IMAX for IMAX Theaters, he's in no way required or obligated to put it to Home Media, even if some of us would like it as an option.

Since there's no 3D version, I pre-ordered this. Looking forward to it.

Default Does the director has Social Media?

Does Adam Windgard has social media? maybe we can ask him if they are going to add the aspect ratio shift or if it's going to maintain the 2.39:1.
Or at least to make little awareness of people wanting it, like with Mission Impossible Fallout, i remember people went and ask it, im not saying that because that they added or that if was or wasn't the plan in the first place, im just saying that maybe we can just ask, the dude seems nice like the Shazzam director.

The tone of Godzilla was great, but there was too much setup for too little payoff. However, Godzilla: King of the Monsters skewed too far in the opposite direction, becoming far too bloated and numbing by the end. I hope we eventually get a few movies with the tone of Godzilla married to the fun payoff delivered consistently by Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

We should probably ignore Nolan movies from "examples of studios doing IMAX on disc" at this point. That one is clearly a director thing, and no matter what studio he's be making the movie under, you can guarantee the disc will have the IMAX ratio.

But it shows that generally speaking they're willing to do it when the director wants it, unlike, say, Disney who is now very protective of their Disney Plus-exclusive IMAX versions.

In his interview with Toho Kingdom this question was asked. He said "it would be cool if they did" but he hasn't heard about it, and he also stated he prefers the scope version for home viewing:

But the 2.3:9 is kind of weirdly my preferred version, watching it at home, it just, something about it makes more sense.

It could be Wingard didn't push for it. I get the vibe that studios default to non-IMAX transfers for home video, with the opposite only occurring when the director pushes for the IMAX version. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if some "specially formatted for IMAX" releases are less a creative decision than a purely financial one. If the latter is the case, studios probably figure IMAX editions are less enticing at home than they are in theaters. It's probably why IMAX Enhanced releases never became a thing (Disney+ and their MCU streams notwithstanding).

Disney did it for Cameron, they could've easily released Avatar TWOW in scope for the disc version and kept the 1.78 for Disney Plus. Instead they released it as is, twice, and even broke their BD100 and Dolby Vision rules.

TWOW was 1.85:1 in all theaters with 1.85:1 screens, so it's not considered IMAX exclusive formatting.

Same with GOTG3, which shifted between 2.39:1 and 1.85:1 on all 1.85:1 theater screens, which is why it's presented that way on disc.

I think the only time Disney has ever released IMAX formatting on a 2D blu-ray was Tron: Legacy, nearly 15 years ago. For a while they offered IMAX formatting on certain 3D blu-rays, and now they've stopped even doing that. I bet if Tron Legacy ever gets a 4K release it will be scope only to protect the IMAX version that's up on D+ now.

Disney stopped because they want to make it D+ exclusive. JC is an one off IMO.

Gotg3 yeah it did switch even in Dolby Cinema but it is 1.90:1 throughout on D+ besides the standard version.

I will unsubscribe when they do LieMax Enhanced on physical media but they won't.

Even Sony ones like Spiderman FFH, NWH and Uncharted have switching aspect radio (NWH is full screen throughout) on Bravia.Core.

I'm guessing Disney and Sony may have IMAX Enhanced exclusivity? but Disney included the IMAX expanded ratio on Guardians Vol3, and Uni included it with Oppenheimer & Nope

Since the collection release does actually say “Collector’s Edition” on the packaging, I’m curious if it will include any exclusive extras. It lacks the BD editions of the movies, so it makes sense that in part the extra disc might just be porting over existing supplements from the varied releases, and hopefully include the Target extras for the first 2. Personally I’m hoping that’s all it does, and I’ll ignore it, but if it does have some unique extras I’ll likely grab it. I am one of the people that has the 2 Godzilla Tokyo Shock “recall” disc for the extras present on them.

No they didn't, what you see on the disc was not exclusive to IMAX, they had the full movie in 1.90.

Oppenheimer is Nolan, and he supervised the release. Do you really think someone's gonna tell him "...uh, sir, we can't include the IMAX footage"? I image Jordan Peele was also involved in Nope's disc release and he made sure the film was presented in his preferred way.

WB could've easily made the IMAX versions of their movies available on MAX or something, to push their streaming service some more, but I think they just don't care. Like, there are movies they've released in 4K that are still only available in 1080p on MAX, which is ridiculous.
