Right...but they share distribution duties anyway for home video (SDS) so a double pack is a foregone conclusion IMO

Yeah, it's possible, absolutely but it would be curious to see which one releases the double pack where...

People were expecting a "Barbenheimer" double pack as well for commercial reasons...

It never happened if I recall correctly

If there's one place that'll get a combo it's France.

As for Barbenheimer...no. Just no.

Things like Barbenheimer only happen naturally. If studios try to force it, people will see the corporate agenda from a mile away.

Random comment: Twisters is getting better reviews than the original, many saying it's better than the original. Perhaps a factor, besides personal taste of any given reviewer of course, is that the disaster film genre is not over-saturated today like it was in the 90s.

It could come down to the age of the person. Twister is not a great movie but for those that saw it in 1996, it was a great summer movie and those people have a special place for the movie.
If the reviewer(s) weren't alive/old enough in 1996, their views on the movie are more apt to be less biased.

Personally, I think Twister is superior in every way to Twisters, but Twisters was enjoyable enough.

Just a comment from Twisters' director, which shows how hard filmmaking is at every level.

"With Minari, we filmed 25 days, and I always thought it felt like a sprint for 25 days. I kept saying to people, “If I could have more days, filmmaking would be a lot easier.” This film was 60 days, so I thought it’s going to be a lot easier. But it was a flat sprint for 60 days. The intensity of this production was the biggest learning curve for me, to face day in and day out."

Todd Field, the director of Tár, said that the reason why he makes so few films is because the process of making them demands so much from you, and he says he's simply not cut out for it.

This really puts into perspective how impressive it is for Scorsese to be so busy and active making movies even in his 80s!

Twister was the first big disaster movie of the 90s. It predated Independence Day, Dante’s Peak, Volcano, Titanic, Deep Impact, Armageddon… all of em.

So... some thoughts I had while watching:
  • From the first note to the last, the music was much better in the original. Very much so in the ominous moments, but in general everywhere it was distinct and solid. The new one was just generic and there with it. Even now, just thinking about the opening notes of the original sends goosey-pimples. This one had nothing like that.
  • The general story formula is the same, but if you have any history with the original, it feels off.
[Show spoiler]They try to "flip" things by having the fun-loving low-budget guys be the outsiders and swap Paxton and Hunt, but it just feels both too similar and not similar enough.
  • Main character was likable enough, and my kids (adult and 16) liked the opening. Tornado wrangler was the more fun though,
[Show spoiler]even with the obvious romantic direction.
  • Why didn't they
[Show spoiler]still put down the radar after the panic? They didn't go that far... or, why didn't they just drive back a bit and put it down?
Just... ugh, contrived drama is contrived.
  • Ugh, that Oklahoma song was way too on-the-nose. The only moment the music rose up, and it was that.
  • Back home was a
[Show spoiler]drag-point in the story, unlike the original that was better paced midway.
  • Ugh, contrived hero moment was contrived, but...
[Show spoiler]if wind is strong enough to pull out anchors, doesn't the whole thing go? The entire movie has established this, yet suddenly, not? If it couldn't pick that thing up, then why the anchors at all?
Some of those are nit-picky, some not, but they were what stuck with me as it went on. I still enjoyed it, and outside of the lame music, the sound effects were fun. I was in lieMAX, low-middle seats, and enjoyed it overall. My wife was in the "this sucks compared to the first one" camp, my kids liked it a lot. Sound was good, picture was good, acting was mostly good, music was meh, and story was... what it was.

A popcorn disaster movie that, let's be honest, was never going to win awards. It'll be a decent weekend time-waster at home. If you are bumming around on a hot day and want to sit in an air-conditioned theater, munch some snacks, and watch things get tore up, there are certainly worse avenues for satisfaction...

Finally got a chance to see this in XD. Pretty good but still debating how close it is to the original in terms of ranking. Close but when you got the Pax-man it's tough to top. One thing the original did better is
[Show spoiler]showing the scope of the tornadoes. You didn't get the magnitude in this one.

I thought the same thing! I'm a huge ER fan and I think Tierney is good in most everything she's in, but I had no idea she was in Twisters until she showed up on-screen.

The score is great. It’s sweeping and has that classic 90’s disaster movie feel.

Not sure why they couldn't get Mark Mancina again though.

Firstly, let me begin by saying I enjoyed TWISTERS. Secondly, the best moment in its score was worse than the worst moment in Mancina’s score to the original film. That is all.
