Watched The Snake Prince last night. Enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would given it's a musical. The video and audio quality was top notch.

The new boxset. Haven't had time to watch them yet. I'm watching Portrait In Crystal at the Moment. Audio and video seems good to me. This is one crazy movie. Don't know if I will like it as much as The Snake Prince.

Portrait in Crystal is great quality. Hopefully there's a review of the disc somewhere online soon. It's actually a good movie too. Just insane stunts and crazy shit happening all the way through.

Just on The Lost Bladesman. I had no idea this was on film so that was a nice surprise. But looks like there was no significant cleanup of the image? There are little specks throughout. It's not noticeable enough to ruin the whole experience but I did see it in the dark scenes.

How has everyone’s experience with the subtitles for these titles been? I just watched The Oily Maniac and they are not good. Rarely using proper punctuation, feels like two separate sentences combined into one line, and odd capitalization.

Hmm, I didn't notice the odd capitalisation. My priority is only to get the right meaning of what's being said so I can follow. I've noticed a few times, in all of the boxset movies for example, times when the translation didn't make any sense in English. It may also to be with the fact that sometimes the movie might be talking about something that's specific to Chinese culture, like folklore and superstition.

On the fence with ShawShock. Great titles there but fear there will be overlap with ShawScope4 which is rumoured to be horror themed. Very fair price for Imprint release but expensive international shipping+handling fee+local 25% vat makes consider more than twice...

This is why I was a bit surprised when someone said earlier in the thread that Imprint Asia was aimed at the US market. That doesn't make much sense with the amount of these releases that are being released in the UK and US on different labels simultaneously or sometime in the future. I'm pretty happy with the boxset but will get Shaw Scope Vol. 4 anyway because the packaging is lit.

Upcoming releases:

I’ve not seen any of these. Are they any good?

Imprint back to strictly 80-90’s titles. They’re certainly keeping the randomness going.

I have loved Eat Drink Man Woman when I watched it as a child, so I regard it suitable for General audiences. The narrative revolves around a retired chef and his interactions with his grown and unmarried daughters. I would buy it if it were not in yet another collector boxset.

If anyone is interested in The Lady Hermit, I did a comparison with the Arrow release (Vol. 3 Boxset) and IMO I think the Imprint version looks considerably worse. Images speak for themselves I guess. It looks like there's some over sharpening done that is creating a blotchy effect.

The Arrow release was newly restored/remastered in 2024. My guess is that Imprint was provided with the old Celestial master, which was fine way back when they were originally remastered, but does not hold up to more recent mastering techniques.

I just had a look at 14 Amazons as well and I think you are correct. The Arrow actually has more natural grain and is noticeably brighter with better colour (and with that, damage to the film is noticeable). Although it looks older with less detail I think the Imprint is more watchable, even though not ideal, whereas I think The Lady Hermit looks pretty crap with or without comparing it to the Arrow, because of that weird patchy look.
