I could always be wrong.
When doing the subs, the first track I heard had out of sync mono. I pointed it out and it appeared to get fixed. I can't offer any more than that.

Quote:
I feel like the subs are timed a little bit off in this release, in a lot of places, and some are running into other scenes, but they are also not synced to both audio tracks, and that's because both audio tracks have different syncs and there's not two subtitle tracks for both audio tracks.
I was only aware of one audio track - Cantonese mono - and that's what I timed the subs to. Very surprised to hear they're "off" in places. They weren't when I submitted them. Not sure what's happened. If by "running into other scenes" you mean the last sub of a scene continues into the first shot of a new scene, that'll be because I felt the additional time was needed for the subtitle to be read. Even allowing for extra time, subtitles can run too fast for some and that's because it takes less time to say six words in Cantonese than it does read twelve (translated) words in English - sometimes there's as little as a second to fit it all in. It's a balancing act, of course, and not everyone will be pleased all the time.

Quote:
I've seen better, I've certainly seen worse, but for 2024 standards, this was timed with a little bit lower effort than I'd personally like to see.
I can assure there was no lack of effort on my part.

Quote:
At the end they just timed the song lyrics to 4.5 seconds and left it. That was really low effort...
Then something went awry... because all the song lyrics at the end were timed to the song itself and closer to 8 secs each.

Ok, I personally like to see subtitles timed to spoken dialog is all.
If I see subtitles on screen during another scene, it takes away a little focus from that scene, just in my opinion, because you're still focused on remembering that scene with that subtitle and the new scene playing, paying attention and constantly reading that subtitle in the scene it doesn't pertain to for that 1 or 3 seconds and by saying all that I really understand the balancing act required for the audio since they're dubbed in these years and the subtitles.
Thank you for your work. It's really appreciated.

Got this in today, but was a little disappointed to notice no commentary at all. I get them porting over the interviews from the old dragon dynasty release, but was there really nobody available that 88 Films could get for a new commentary? For my favorite Jet Li film, it’s a little sad there’s nothing new this offers apart from the new transfer. Very happy to own this in 4K, but kinda feeling like I overpaid for what I got.

Apparently Frank Djeng wasn’t asked to do one for this which I found very odd.

88 certainly are charging a premium for their UHD releases.

Shame no commentary on this and a few more features would have been nice. Definitely noticed a bit of a drop in quality in 88's Special Features more recently.

Film looks phenomenal in UHD, though! Gritty and grainy and organic. Loved this transfer.

Agreed. Watched it last night and was very pleased. Opening titles looked rough, but after that everything looked great.

Just watched the 4K disc and I'm very pleased. Every release of this movie since the Dragon Dynasty DVD has had this weird slow-mo/stutter effect that occurs whenever there's an edit in the action scenes. Once you see it, you can not unsee it and it ruins the viewing experience. That is no longer present in this new 4K transfer thank the heavens. My only gripe is the lack of the English dub (don't judge me!!!), but I'll take what I can get at this point. I guess I'll have to hang on to the awful non-anamorphic Twin Warriors DVD if I ever get the desire to watch the English dub again.

I wish 88films would release more Hong Kong movies in the uk especialy hong kong action movies instead of the soft core erotic films because to me it seems like everyone else are doing a better job with HK films than they are and I hope they can get someone to do new special features for their asian collection instead of just getting any old stuff they can get their hands on and I'm really looking forward to the two fong sai yuk films.

the Fist of Legend dragon dynasty dvd loks like that too, where there was a studder effect during action scenes. did a test and it was removed/restored to its orignal glory on the 88 films release

also noticed the runtime is listed at 93 min when the DD release is 96. i assume its adding minutes due to their dub and reworking

Yeah, the audio was distractingly out of sync.
I think 88 Films did a pretty sloppy job with that, and with a premium price tag to boot.
Where was the QC?
Not impresses with this effort. Fingers crossed for a fixed version and replacement program.

Are you referring to TAI CHI MASTER? Audio is perfectly fine on my disc. You do realise that these films were all post-dubbed, regardless of the language, no? So the sync will never be 100% perfect. I actually loved how gritty and organic this looks on UHD.

Yeah, of course. But I thought most of the hits, thuds and other distinct sounds were pretty off as well. More so than I remember from other editions.

Odd. The effects are in perfect sync on my disc. I remember the scene where Jet Li hits himself with bricks on the head numerous times, and those effects all were in perfect sync. Could be a player issue? The audio quality is not strong, don't get me wrong, but sync was not an issue on my end using an Oppo player connected straight to the TV.

I watched the Cantonese mono and the audio is definitely out of sync by around 250ms. I know this because this because that's how much I had to adjust the sync on my receiver connected to my Panasonic blu-ray player.

Just curious: what are you using as a frame of reference? The dialogue/mouth/lip movements (which *are* out of sync most of the time, but this is just the way the dubbing is, like with pretty much all of these films), or the sound effects? The latter are in perfect sync in my case, but I do not have a receiver and I am going straight to the TV.

SFX didn't match what was on screen until I changed the audio sync.

You must be unaware of the amount of HK films 88 have put out over the last few years?
Along with Eureka they started the trend of amazing releases packed with extras.
Loads of Jackie Chan and Shaw Brothers have been released among other HK goodies and oddities. Check their back catalogue, you'll find your comment is misinformed.
