Aiyaaaaaa that trailer makes me fangirl so hard, I need this so bad. I love that it's subtly closer to the look of the manga for character designs and the returning actors sound great as ever! Please let this get a physical release T^T

looks similar to Urusei Yatsura (2022). Where it looks a little weird and jarring when upgrading 90's hand-drawn anime style to whatever are these modern, digitized techniques.
I think it looks pretty good! But I also think that we often don't realize is that what we want is the original look. That's a huge proportion of the charm. All that hand-drawn detail. Much of its spirit is lost in translation following the automated, homogenizing processes. Then you get that Uncanny Valley feeling, but with anime (instead of humans). It looks and feels sooo much like the original, but then something is off. and it instinctually feels WAY off. |

I'm excited, since I never watched the Original.
However now I see Netflix has the right which is so lame. I don't support streaming, so basically I'm going to be stuck here waiting for a physical release if that ever happens. I wish people just stopped supporting streaming and bought stuff physically. You pay money to those corporations and don't own anything. Cable, streaming...all money down the drain. |

Part of the crisis averted then. So we'll get discs in a (hopefully) timely manner, but what about dub cast consistency?

Meh, kind of unnecessary like the UY remake though I guess they are just trying to make it more accessible to younger anime fans who refuse to watch "old" anime. Whatever. Rather have a Slayers remake, that animation needed an upgrade the moment it was made.

I understand the sentiment, but the viewer revenue/advertising is what allows projects to continue to exist. It’s why shows that don’t hit certain viewer numbers get axed. In the US, a show gets like $1M per viewer. Restricting media to a physical only format will not yield anywhere near the same level revenue. I’d argue that Netflix obtaining all this anime allows it to reach a much wider audience and bring in new fans/followers that will help sustain the industry.

Thank god this won’t be in Netflix jail. Since this is Viz, I expect they will at least try to maintain cast consistency. They might just send it to Ocean since a huge chunk of the cast would be reprising from Vancouver (and Kaye, Donovan, Fitzgerald, etc could maybe reprise remotely). Yashahime was mostly a new cast of characters, with the originals in smaller roles. But I could also see this as another Bang Zoom dub since they’ve already worked with the Vancouver studio/actors for Yashahime, and there will still be plenty of roles to recast.
If this was Netflix, we’d have a completely new cast, unless the studio really wanted Kaye back as Soun like with the Shaman King cast. |

I think it's actually really smart revitalizing these all-time great classics for modern audiences. It will sell manga, generate discussion, and get all sorts of people interested in old series again, through public discourse.
It also means that some of our other few remaining older shows might be more likely to see a release again. Rights' holders are more likely to take action if some brand is newly seen as profitable or culturally relevant. |

Some news on the dub:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ranma/s/7uWa3cEItS It is already appearing on the SAG-AFTRA Signatory Search. A producer on the original Ranma dub has recently been in contact with Richard Ian Cox and he has not been contacted about reprising his role yet. Kelly Sheridan also said she hasn't heard anything about the dub yet on her Instagram stories. |
