The one in the boxset was a real treat for me. Here was my review.

This was a great experience for me, mostly because of the quality and the video and eerie sound. I saw the movie near release in a student theater and I've streamed it a few times in the years since and I had been thinking for a while that I should own it, so when the collection was announced I thought it was a good time to finally grab it. When I saw it 20 years ago I thought it was creepy but
[Show spoiler]the next week
I was scared out of my mind. And I slept right next to a tv too, yikes. I'm pretty sicne it was the first time I ever saw Naomi Watts. Also it's cool that Daveigh Chase
[Show spoiler]is the girl
as she's done some other cool stuff, like S. Darko. The movie is also a nice little time capsule right before phones became ubiquitous. Watching again I found all kinds of plot holes but I'm not bothered by them that much. This was definitely my best experience watching this movie, and a plus is that I'm not and not going to be scared at all lol.

The movie has an incredible Dolby vision picture and is one of the < 10 movies that looks like something different to me on UHD. There's lots of gran but unfortunately it's not ants crawling out of your screen. It's there but low key, but then there is tons of detail too. The HDR also works very well with the movie dark palate, and water looked incredible. There's a lot of water! For sound I used headphones per usual. For most recent movies I've had to say something like I sued headphones but it's just talking anyway so it doesn't matter. Well that's definitely not the case here! The movie has incredibly eerie music and sounds, mostly throughout. Using headphones I hard them in a way I never heard them before as I don't remember the movie sounding like that at all. Maybe in the theater but that was so long ago. The soundtrack on the videotape is particularly creepy and helps you pay attention to it.

All specials are on the blu-ray which is annoyingly region locked so I had to switch to my PS3. Specials are some deleted/extended scenes, some of which are cool, a behind the scenes featurettes it calls interviews, and then the "Rings" short movie. I thought I remember reading the the short movie wouldn't be included but it's very much here! It's a 15 minute movie that I guess takes place between The Ring and Ring 2. It is not consistent with The Ring
[Show spoiler]in that it centers on people going increasingly crazy as day 7 approaches. Now Rachel had some visions but she didn't go crazy, and Noah had nothing happen to him at all before his death other than the warped photos. Amber Tamblyn also appeared to be fine at the start of the movie. So the going crazy was out of nowhere.
It's been too ling since I saw Ring 2 so I don't know if it had any of that. There's also an hour and half feature that I think is about all 3 movies so I'm going to watch it after I see all 3, of which #2 will be next week and #3 the following. I hope to also watch them with [redacted].

As I've seen it many times I'm not emotionally gushing about or ragging on the movie itself. However it's a very good movie and you definitely don't want to know anything about it going it. If you haven't seen it stop reading and buy this set, must buy for any fan of The Ring or fan of UHD.

Same here. One rare instance where I didn't snooze, and I did still lose.

I wonder if these will be different transfers. Not that we need better ones. The PQ on the Shout discs are perfect!

Selfishly hoping this'll be a lower bitrate BD-66 and the Shout set will still be the definitive transfer. Because I want to justify spending a ton of money on it, because I am an idiot.

There's only one transfer. Differing encodes =/= different transfer.

It could be a lower bitrate disc and still look the same too. Bitrate isn't everything.

Haven't been following the thread but didn't Halloween H20 end up being different with the Paramount?

Yes, because the Shout disc had a color space conversion error, making it look more colorful than it should've. The Paramount disc was correct.

Fantastic news! I still feel really bad about taking my girlfriend to the theater to see Rings when it came out. At least we can joke about that experience together now. That movie was awful and that's the main reason I didn't buy the Shout set. The Ring is one of my favorites, but I really don't want Rings (I'd mich rather have the Death Toilet trilogy on my shelf than Rings). Part 2 doesn't bother me, though. The people at the Vinegar Syndome shop told me to hold off and wait for the stand alone release of the first and I'm so glad I did. A movie about a VHS tape on a 4K disc? I'm sold!

£10 too expensive to my eyes, I foolishly hoped it was all 3 films like the US SF set.

No special features on the 4K Blu-ray. The UK disc artwork on the standard Blu-ray claims special features. However it's the 20th Anniversary disc, which was released in more European countries. Barebones.

I presume this will be the same master as the Shout version but a different encode?
