Dude, you do realize you're in the 4K section, do you? I am looking forward to a 4K release of something that only exists on BD so far. Because Arrow was lazy. I also have very good reasons to think that a 4K release of the Ulysses cut of Waterworld will best the BD. Want to know why? Because I own a (two actually) 4K of the TC and it bests the TC BD. If you consider that "hyping" something, I guess every single 4K thread is "hype" in your book.

You seriously have got to be kidding me.

I just carefully read me hyping something again, because I just can't get over that. Because the idea of me hyping anything is lol really. I suck at selling anything, am a sceptical guy and am usually accused of a lack of enthusiasm. But take from what I write whatever you want...

I also happen to actually like the yellow/warmer grading of the Arrow btw. Am I hyping the Arrow BD now?

I haven't heard any company say that they wanted to but they were denied by Universal?

It's coming out in 2 weeks. The disc is definitely already pressed and packaged.

Doesn't say anything on Atmos for theatrical like Arrow. And no DTS:X either from Universal disc. Hope Plaion don't omiss anything this time around so we get the best overall.

Apparently it's DTS-HD MA 7.1 and 2.0, for both English and German.

There is DTS-X according to the Boxset. The language options on the Boxset were visable for a few seconds during the live stream. Check out the video starting at 49 minutes and 30 seconds to see it.

Partly offtopic...

I'm still not questioning people receiving scratched Plaion discs, but I wil say that I received 34 completely unscratched MacGyver discs today. I first thought that disc 4 of season 7 is missing though, until I read that the disc with the TV films is "missing" on purpose and saw the packaging also clearly stating only 34 discs.

I then also vaguely remembered the TV films disc "missing" on purpose, but the empty tray remains a somewhat odd solution still: If the tray doesn't remain empy, the info printed on the digi that this disc isn't included becomes an oddity, and if there won't be such a disc, the empty tray will remain an oddity.

Is there anyone who might do a group buy and ship to the US?

Does Plaion/Koch ever do sales on their sets?

Will this Waterworld set be Limited or just a Plaion Shop exclusive?

I happen to have a friend visiting Poland and he agreed to ask a relative to accept the delivery and then ship it to me in the US. It's so bizarre that Plaion won't ship outside the EU, which means the UK is also SOL. It's almost as if they have some kind of bias for the world outside the EU, as silly as that sounds.

They have sometimes sales. But most likely is a discount code of like 5 EUR off, 10% off or like two weeks ago the 20% off.

It's definitely also limited with this packaging and stuff. I don't know how many they'll produce, but in Germany it will probably a popular release because of the German dubs on both the theatrical and long version.

Yeah, Plaion hates everyone outside of Europe as much as the multiple companies from the US and around the world that don't ship to Europe. We're a laughing stock to Kino Lorber and Criterion at this point I guess. They either must hate us or it has something to do with licensing and such silly paperwork. I'm not sure.

They probably don't want to have to deal with the customs paperwork.

I can't imagine they aren't going to do a pressing of it eventually for sale outside Germany. Hasn't basically every "exclusive" of theirs started out that way, then they ended up doing another pressing then ended up being sold at Amazon.de/JPC.de/etc? I'm thinking of many of their steelbooks and the DUNE box especially, all were site exclusives -- for a time. Highly doubt they're going to the trouble of doing a 4K of the Ulysses cut and then only sell it on their website. Wait 6-12 months and it'll show up one way or another.

German boutique labels tend to do releases primary for Germany.

That said, international followup releases may happen, but don't hold your breath.

Phantasm 4K comes to mind for example. Leatherface TCM3 is another one and so is the Hellraiser 1 BD with those infamous extra frames in the end scene. Not big things in total, but international copyright is usually what keeps these things exclusive.

I'm not sure if territorial copyright for the Ulysses Cut is an issue here but it certainly does seem odd to make an effort to remaster that cut only to sell it to countries like Estonia and Greece. Nothing against those guys but how big is physical media support in those countries? Probably not as big as the US or UK.

Plaion ships to most of the countries in EU as far as I know and Germany itself is about one and a half times bigger than the UK.

Germany prioritizes Germany, as they always have (and why shouldn't they?). The rest of the EU are mostly allowed to shop but the countries outside the EU, not so much.

It is what it is.

Well, the way I see it, the film rights in Germany are usually only purchased for the GAS territory (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). If a label's shop is selling beyond this area, it is all added bonus on top of that.

Selling outside EU might require modification of the shop software, including deduction of the VAT, additional customs documentation, integration of electronic customs declaration and so on — so I perfectly see the reluctance to invest into this for a small group of international buyers in markets not even covered by one's licensing.

Germany has a population of 84 million. With German speaking countries Swiss and Austria it’s 100 million. EU 740 million, US 333 million …

Just use a reshipping service like we in the EU and UK have to do for lots of the US labels that don’t ship to us. It’s simple. The US and UK already got Waterworld UHD releases where most of the buyers probably don’t care enough to import Waterworld from Germany for the longer cut on UHD as a double dip in a boxset as big as a sneaker box with a Booklet in German. For most people that isn’t reasonable.

Turbine doesn’t seem to have a problem with any of this

Plaion shipped my copy to my contact in Poland...hopefully nothing goes wrong with them reshipping it to me. From what I was told by my buddy these aren't the kind of folks who are used to shipping stuff overseas. Weird way to obtain physical media but that's the collector's way.
