The entire thing is an advertisement for the theatrical release. Criterion artwork doesn't look like that.

Doesn't Criterion usually use the artwork from the blu ray with their 4ks?

Yes, most of the time. Occasionally, they'll go with the same art they use to promote the movie theatrically, like with Le Samourai.

I saw the 4K restoration for this film yesterday and I thought it looked absolutely beautiful. This was a first time watching the movie and I saw it with a big crowd which made the funny scenes more entertaining and the more emotional scenes more meaningful. I was very glad I went to see this as I don't catch classic film screenings often (Only like 4-5 in my life so far).

I will be definitely ordering the 4K for this film next B&N sale. Restoration looks stunning and colors seem more appropriate than the screen caps I have seen of the 2019 2K.

Agreed 100%. I just watched the 4K restoration earlier today, and it was seriously gorgeous. Many scenes were striking in terms of color and overall sharpness. Film grain was excellent, as it was present, but very minimal.

They really hit a grand slam with this.

I met Nastassja Kinski like 10 years ago and got her to sign a bunch of stuff. She was very shy but sweet. A few Paris, Texas things:

I’ll have to keep the old blu with the inferior artwork, but man, I wish I had that Curzon 4K release signed instead. Will be getting that over the criterion 4K for sure.

Did I miss a Criterion announcement somewhere? Are they releasing a 4K or is everyone just speculating because they did a 2K release years ago? I haven’t heard any Criterion involvement yet for the new restoration. I preordered the Curzon 4K from Amazon but would love to know if someone else like Criterion was also releasing this.

Janus' logo is on the poster (this is in the main post, take a closer peek) and they announced on social media it's coming back to theaters. It's all but confirmed.

Interesting that Wenders changed his ratio preference of 1.85 for this edition

The first blu was 1.78 now he's doing 1.66/1.178 instead of just doing the correct 1.85. Nice catch. I won't be getting that.

Really dumb move IMO.

I meant 1.78 rather than 1.85 my bad. The Criterion Blu-ray booklet says 1.78 is/was Wenders preferred ratio. AFAIK it was originally released in 1.66

Pulled it up on IMDB

Aspect ratio:

1.66 : 1(2014 Restoration)
1.66 : 1(Europe)
1.85 : 1(North America)

Well that's a mess. Not quite sure why he'd prefer that version.

I saw the 4K restoration last night at my local art house cinema, and it looks so wonderful.
