She cuts up the chronology, loosens the dialog and performances so it feels more spontaneous and real, and foregrounds the authorship/memoir themes in a way that no version has done before.

The Elizabeth Taylor version is still my favorite (just for the era it was made in), but I think Gerwig's is far better than the 90s one, and a brilliant adapted script in its own right.

I also have zero interest in seeing another Narnia movie, but Gerwig doing the adaptations gives me hope after seeing Little Women.

I was pretty attached to the 1994 version, and even though I liked Gerwig's writing, her previous movies revolved around characters who were lazy, immature, self-absorbed, and entitled. The March sisters are the opposite of those traits, which made Gerwig seem like a bad fit for the material. I get that artists can grow, it was just very easy for me to skip her adaptation, so I did. Maybe I'll give it a chance one of these days.

Strangely, Sofia Coppola did a remake of 'The Beguiled' that felt to me like she would've rather been remaking 'Little Women', and I think she would've been a more obvious fit the material. Coppola's version of 'The Beguiled' was just too soft a take on material that I felt worked better as a nasty dark comedy.

Since the price at DD is so good ($25.99) I put in a pre-order and wrote asking what exactly the release is, explaining HD-DVD hasn't existed since 2008, and asking if it was indeed the 4K 30th anniversary release pictured.

Of course, the response wasn't very helpful;

"Our records indicated the item is a Blu-ray for 4k mastering."

Since AFAIK no 30th anniversary separate BR has been announced, I assume this is the 4K and it might be a good deal. Of course, Deep Discount could realize their error and just cancel as well...

They also listed the new John Carpenter’s Vampires 4K as a HD-DVD. I wouldn’t worry.

DeepDiscount has updated their listing to say 4K Ultra UHD. That price seemed really good, so I ordered from them. Looking forward to watching this film again this holiday season!

I bought this movie last time it released in 2020 and the left and right channels played in the left and right rears for some strange reason. This was not an issue on the Little Women and Marie Antoinette combo disc or the Little Women 94 4K digital. I posted about it in that movies thread but no one ever answered to let me know if it was just my disc. I am referring to the 5.1 track. I will be buying this release since that error rendered viewing impossible for me.

This sounds like a similar issue as the BD for 28 Days. That's still a big mess but Sony did corrected discs for it. You'll have to read the 28 Days thread to get the info on that issue. Can you report back if this issue has been fixed with the 4K disc for Little Women?

Thank you for the response. I will peruse the thread you suggested for more info. When I do pick up the 4K I will be glad to let you know if this is an issue. I only have the 4k digital at the moment.

Wow, I had no idea this was coming on 4K UHD BD. I saw this for the first time last year on Sony's Bravia Core Pure Stream, and it was an amazing movie and looked amazing on 4K stream.

I just pre ordered it from DeepDiscount, it's a must have for me.

This site lists a 2.0 English track on the Sony disc. Did you try that one to see if the audio comes out the rears as well?

With this being a MOD release, it appears Amazon is already out copies. I just got the "your order is delayed due to supply chain issues" email and asking if I still want my item.

Oddly enough I pre-ordered this over a month ago...just hope it's not a lost cause at this point. Same thing happening with The Shape of Water 4k

The 2.0 is just fine and uses the left and right channels properly. I upmixed it with DSU and the center channel handled the dialog while the left and right channels played music etc. There was barely any activity in the rear channels mostly bleed from the left and right and the height effects are there but barely. I hope the Atmos mix is a genuine effort. I will check out the 4K digital as it has been a few years since I last checked it so I do not remember if it was quality track or not. I always find lossy digital Atmos tracks to be less than impressive generally.
