I've been hoping to see this in 3-D for years, and I'm absolutely thrilled this is happening. I think it's a great choice for Kino to go with. If Kino Lorber were in the habit of making poor decisions they would've gone out of business years ago.

I'd also love to see Kino releasing other titles like Spacehunter, or Captain EO, or some of the many WB and Columbia titles, but Kino can only release from what is available to them. It doesn't matter if the original negative is safely stored in excellent condition when the studio says no.

I was looking for the best quality version of the VHS artwork. I only noticed after I'd posted that it was in fact a Betamax cover. Fitting I suppose, that this would be higher quality, but it's otherwise identical to the VHS. I remember seeing this in the wild years ago.

That's what I assume, an attempt by the video label to cash in on the popularity of Gremlins. I don't suppose any of the characters are actually referred to as Gremloids or Gremlords in the film. Perhaps the little hooded characters are Gremloids and Lord Buckethead is the Gremlord?

I'd rather vote for Lord Buckethead! He might not be the lesser evil, but at least you know where you stand.

3D restoration/licensing is a very small circle and adding more detail would reveal sources and rub some the wrong way…we already have Waverboy on full meltdown mode and they’re not even involved behind the scenes as far as I know….just realize that I was right about Money From Home requiring nearly 2 years to complete while others were claiming it would be “soon”….but it’s fine….carry on…nothing to see here…

That's not an unreasonable assumption to make given the complexity of the restoration and the amount of titles 3-DFA have on their slate. I don't think most of us are surprised that it's been in the pipeline for this time, that's not unusual.

Since you mention that, perhaps you're disappointed that they're going ahead with Hyperspace when no deal has been announced for Flight to Tangier, maybe you will understand how the complexity and expense of that title would pose an obstacle. It's prudent for Kino to first proceed with Money from Home to give an idea of the viability of another such restoration. Anyway, I certainly hope that can be worked out in due course, and I don't see titles like Hyperspace and Frankenstein's Bloody Terror preventing that from happening.

Agreed.

Are you seriously expecting anyone to believe that you are concerned about rubbing someone the wrong way?

Can’t wait to see Hyperspace! So much good stuff in the pipeline from the 3-DFA and those decision makers at Kino.

This is one of the rare 80s 3D titles that I never got around to watching in 2D, I think VIPCO released it in the UK on a poor quality DVD so it had zero appeal to me. But after I saw the trailer and found out that it was a 3D movie it's been right up there on my most wanted list. Silver Age 3D is just so much FUN that I know I'm going to be watching this with a big grin on my face.

Star Chaser 3D, I was hoping for a blu ray 3D years ago but the rights holders went with a distributor who didn't offer it, just a 3D lenticular blu ray cover art for a 2D release sadly. I hope they consider going with 3-D Film Archive soon. That would be awesome. There are lower quality side by side and anaglyph versions floating around in the market, but can't compare to a restored, high quality 3-D version on blu ray 3D. I hope that happens.

Thanks. Cool to see those old sleeve art work designs, and that art work is top notch too in my opinion for a smaller budget film. Really inspires the imagination when looking at the video VHS shelf at the video stores back then in the 1980s. Aside from those lucky to see this in theaters, I bet a lot will be seeing this in 3D for the first time.

The supermarket, that will be fun to see in strong 3D with all of the rows of aisles, food and shopping carts. I'm not sure what other locations are in the movie, but that image of being in the grocery store got my attention, along with the Star Wars Jawas theme.

And pretending you DO know without supplying evidence reinforces our opinion. Everyone's a critic these days.

I will continue to revel in the results of the KL/3DFA partnership while others cry "sour grapes."

Why? I can tell you why. Because Bob and Kino believe in rescuing as many vintage 3-D titles as possible. That's why. Because these titles, no matter how good bad or indifferent they may be, are part of stereoscopic cinema history so in the eyes of the 3DFA, they should be saved. That stands in stark contrast to other people and studios who will say, "well, we only want to save the important stuff. To hell with the rest of it." Sony only has 10 vintage 3-D features and 3 shorts and they could only be bothered restoring 4 features and 2 shorts. And when asked, respond with "we restored the important titles." Frankly, Fort Ti as their first Color 3-D film should have been considered important. The Stranger Wore a Gun should have been higher up on the list thanks to Randolph Scott. William Castle directed Fort Ti, Jesse James vs the Daltons and Drums of Tahiti. Lee Van Cleef is in The Nebraskan. Spacehunter is their only 80s entry and it has Molly Ringwald, Peter Strauss, and Michael Ironside in it. How did all six movies get dismissed as not important enough? They would have been important for the 3DFA to restore. Why? Because the 3DFA philosophy seems to be "was it a 3-D movie? Yes? Then it's important enough to restore."

I personally applaud them for that.

Who knows? Hyperspace may not be a good movie. But its a rarity and something I never figured I'd see at all let alone in 3-D. So if the 3DFA wants to restore it, I will purchase it and give it a spin. So should you.

The basic principle should have been that every 3D movie is important so I disagree that anything should have been higher up the list, they should have just restored the whole list.

Apart from what promises to be some great 3D -- and the opportunity of seeing the character that launched 1000 UK PM candidates (sort of like a regenerating Dr. Who! ), what I'm looking forward to most about this release is Chris Elliott in a co-starring role.

Yes, I realize Elliott's an acquired taste... and, yes, a comedian can only be as good as a movie's script will allow... and, yes, Hyperspace commands merely a 4.7 on IMDb.... but... in my book, Elliott can do no wrong. (Well... very little wrong...)

Needless to say, I was a ginormous fan of his sublime TV series "Get a Life." And I may have been one of the few who truly enjoyed his 1994 star-turn Cabin Boy. Alas, it bombed. When his former boss David Letterman had him on as a guest a few months later, Letterman asked, "So, are you looking forward to returning to your old job at The Gap...?"

Anyway, I be lovin' me some Chris Elliott.

Paula Poundstone? Well, I won't be discussing her....

Agreed, especially since Sony only needed to do 6 more features and 1 short and that's it. Is that sooo much that they couldn't bother?

Kudos on spelling "bated" correctly. Most spell it "baited" (which I love seeing )

To be sure, I didn't mean to suggest that any one title was more worthy of restoration than any other. Though I could make an argument that mainstream titles are more worthy than porn like Manhold. But that's an agree to disagree thing. Indeed, Sony have restored all 10.

Kudos to Universal and Paramount, though. With the release of The Glass Web, all the vintage Universal 3-D features will be out (sadly we're losing the three musical shorts but that can't be helped I suppose). With Money From Home, the only missing vintage Paramount title is Flight to Tangier. So at least those two studios cared enough to do them all.
