Rarewaves has a 10% code for this title specifically, so I think that's where I'll order from. I've been really happy with their shipping speed and packaging since I started using them!

I don't think it's this set specifically. I tried a code with a bunch of other stuff and it didn't work on that either. Hopefully a temporary glitch rather than a change in policy re pre-orders.

FWIW, I noticed that the referral scheme page seems to have disappeared. I presumed that it was for xmas but it might well be permanent. Let's face it, it's not going to last forever, though I suspect they'll lose a lot of custom if it goes.

I don't think there's a direct link to it from the homepage, that changed a little while ago, but you can still get to it:

https://hmv.com/refer-a-friend

It's a scheme that's so wide open to abuse that I'm surprised it took them this long to address it if it were really an issue for them. It wouldn't surprise me if they removed pre-orders eligibility, but I can't see them removing it completely as, like you say, I would think it would impact a significant % of sales.

Hopefully a glitch, but if not then just more ammo for the "buy less" argument.

All I get when I click that link is the "refer a friend" title and no info, which is what I was alluding to earlier.

That said, it would make perfect business sense to shut it down for the xmas period. Too early to pronounce it permanently dead.

Hopefully, it's a glitch.

No trailer, yet. I hope there is one, I wonder if the leak has impacted on their original plans for the press release?

The last few releases haven gone like this, the trailer seems to appear later now.

Can't wait for this. It's going to be amazing to own Jon Pertwee's first season Blu-ray. Spearhead From Space is so fantastic that it's comparable to a Steven Spielberg movie.

Someone did say key to time was planned to be one of the last two,
this was early on of the boxset releases,
but given the way things change with the releases, and b&w releases falling behind, who knows if it’s still the case.

Also there have been a few rumours that the new series may be getting similar treatments for series re-releases, in the collection

If they want to do that, fine, but not before all the Classic series is completed.

And has been swiftly denied being worked on by the collection team.

Richard Bignell: “It's certainly nothing that the Blu-ray Collection team of heard of or have any part in.”

If it is happening from the collection team it ain’t happening any time soon

I would certainly hope it would be done by the collection team, were it to happen.

Especially given the shoddy state of previous releases.

Considering they are called the collection team I’d be surprised if any 2005 era collection set wouldn’t have them involved

Well I can't say I'd be buying new series versions when I already own them in complete box sets on physical media anyway. Just another way for them to make a quick buck.

But in terms of extras the new series sets have always lagged behind the collection sets. There is so much more they can do with that era. In conversations, behind the sofa, season overviews, biography's to the likes of Bernard Cribbins, tomorow’s times, stripped for action, the collectors for those eras and that is before getting on to stuff like tardisodes and other things that wasn’t on the original sets. If handled correctly it would be more than just there to make a quick buck. It’s probably a good 5 years off anyway. Going by what the team have always said they wouldn’t be considering the new series era until the classic era was pretty much completed

The telesnap reconstruction for The Crusade was far from "worst case scanario" IMO. It allowed me to follow and enjoy the story in full, which is the point regardless of how they do it.

It's season 3 where it will be problematic without animations - with many stories having little visual record. The fan reconstructions have "borrowed" from other films and TV, but that's not something an official reconstruction can do without extra fees. Not impossible, but challenging.
