I don't why this film takes so much. It's well written and acted. The majority of the f/x are very good. The cinematography is gorgeous. I can't wait to see this on 4k.
For those who've already received this, did you receive a shipping email prior to delivery or did it just show up? |

The flops that were by major studios at least. Indie movies were an entirely different issue.

Took a quick gander last night as my disc came in and honestly the DV doesn't do much on this. Looks pretty flat for the most part. I'd have to go back to the older master but gains are pretty minimal here in terms of HDR. Granted the earlier 1080p master was pretty good too as memory serves so maybe my expectations were set a notch too high.

Wow my slipcover for this came in horrendous shape. All 4 corners smushed in, creases on the spines, and the front right half looks like a dog was scratching on it. Cant all possibly be due to shipping damage. I also got another Kino in that was recently released that had the scratching on the right half front. Must be yet another factory issue

Prophecy from Target, the other one from B&N.
I think they use the same warehouse, but two completely different releases with weird scratch damage on exactly the same place of the slipcover under the undamaged shrinkwrap indicates a manufacturing error. The dents on the Target one were likely shipping damage. |

The prior Shout blu ray has a more contrasty look to it, with a bit of black crush or at least solidification creeping in on the darkest objects, the primaries are a bit oversaturated along with some attendant overly-hot pinkish skin tones, and the coarser grain is fairly exacerbated now and again in brighter scenes. From recollection it appeared to be a 2k scan of an ip. Par for the course, it looks pretty good and has that darker, more dupey film print look to a degree.
The new Kino 4k looks to have the usual expected uptick in fine detail, more relaxed color palette that’s not over-boosted, and looks more like what you’d expect from a scan of an ocn in terms of finer grain (what there is of it). It’s just a damned shame that Kino consistently serves up such rubbish encodes now, and there’s no denying the mushy grain, macroblocking, frozen or sluggish or pulsing grain at random, chroma noise, etc etc. It clearly does hamper depth and fine detail when the compression is so naff, but this is Kino doing Kino, and it’s highly unlikely to change on the uhd platform. As usual, the transfer is good and the color mastering is fine but the encode is daft as expected. It’s why Kino in its present mode of production will never tender a definitive uhd. It’s probably the best way to view the film now, but if any other boutique like Arrow grabbed this title for a uhd drop, and did up the compression properly, the Kino uhd would be an instant coaster (as usual). I got my email from Barnes & Noble, it’s ready for me to pick up, I couldn’t get there this evening, probably tomorrow. Looking forward to watching it. I only have this on DVD. Nice uptick in detail, color that isn’t over-boosted and it looks like a proper scan from the OCN. Sounds good to me.

Anyone else have issues with their copy? Got mine and it froze and stuttered at 45 minutes in. Sent it back for a replacement and that one froze at the 36-minute mark.
