By switch standards, yes. By gaming standards, no. Nintendo almost always comes out far behind the technology curve so they can charge less. Could it be 400, yeah. I doubt it though. And 450 would be crazy. Getting up there in PS5 prices for a technology far behind.
Remember that they charged $300 for an off the shelf mobile chip released in 2015 in 2017 (and still today somehow).

I’m not saying it SHOULD be $400/450, just that it probably will. I’d love to be wrong and get it for cheaper though.

Of course OLED would be better, but I wonder if Switch 2 will use the same 8" display as PS Portal? It is a pretty good LCD display and using a part that is in circulation could be a cost savings.

Yeah, the PS Portal display is VERY nice! If it's like that, I don't think you'll hear too many people complain. Personally, I don't care all that much either way, as my Switch stays docked about 90% of the time anyway.

I'll just wait 10 years and buy the handheld used from GameStop. Assuming GameStop will still be around in 10 years.

I mostly play docked but my primary gaming display is an OLED. And after getting used to the OLED Switch and the Steam Deck OLED, it's hard to go back to anything else. I may hold off on upgrading until the inevitable OLED model comes out. It will really depend on the Switch 2 features and software. If there aren't free improvements for existing games it will be an easy pass. But if BotW is playable at 60fps/Full HD on day one without any paid upgrade BS, it will be hard to resist.

I get that. But my question is, WHY is OLED still more expensive in 2025? It's OLD tech! That's what I'm saying. Nintendo should be able to mass order 8" OLED screens in 2025 at a very reasonable price to where the impact on manufacturing costs should be negligible.

Remember that this is the same company who didn't put a capacitive touch screen on their one of their devices until the original Switch came out in 2017.

bc its better tech. Like SSD is old tech at this point but its still more expensive than a HDD. If they go with an LCD screen, its simply to reduce costs as they arent willing to each it for whatever the difference is per unit. Per unit, its probably not a big difference but when they expect to manufacture millions, thats 10s of millions of dollars they are losing over something they know most people wont care about

I feel like manufacturers are keeping the cost of OLED artificially inflated so they can keep selling it at a premium price.
I’m with you.

One thing I really hope Nintendo considers this gen is a boost dock. I'd gladly pay $100+ for an optional dock that will further boost performance on games when playing on the TV. I seem to recall that before the Switch was announced that Nintendo had actually applied for a patent for something like that. So there's a little hope that they might consider it. I don't expect 4K on everything, but I'm simply done with 30fps gaming and if they can't do it on the base hardware, sell me a freaking dock that will make it happen.

I think it still comes down to the size of the parent sheet of glass and how many other sized sheets you can get out of it. Iirc LG was trying to make a different sized parent sheet a couple years ago to try and maximize what they got out of it and mostly eliminate waste.

The original Switch reveal showed off the Pro controller and the grip. Not so here. I wonder if that means no new Switch 2 Pro controller and they’ll continue selling the existing model.

I doubt it, and I would really hope not. If the rumors of the new Joy-Cons using hall-effect sticks are true, I would want them to also incorporate those into a new Pro controller. Also, fix the terrible D-pad on the original Pro controller.

You should. The Switch scratched an itch the PlayStation doesn’t. Playing a new Mario game transports you back to being a kid again.

Hopefully we get a new/improved Pro because mine has terrible drifting issues and I don’t trust a replacement to fair better over time.

Kind of like why Netflix nickel and dimes you for 4k when it should be the standard by now.

I think it’ll absolutely be $399 at launch
