It stems back to when the war was at its highest peak. While you were on the sidelines we were getting attacked from every angle. Wave after wave of Red Ants brought out the worst in us.

It's just old pent up hostility. It will fade to a nice calming Blu soon though

Perhaps you should wonder how the HD DVD folk treated these people over the years.

Many are here because you couldn't post in peace anywhere else.

True, but you also couldnt post in peace in any of the "red" forums either, because of the BD people coming to attack. Both sides are equally guilty. I honestly dont understand attacking someone over what format they like. Unless you were an employee of the BDA or Toshiba, you were not personally involved, no matter that you owned equipment. Your financial rise or fall did not depend on the war. Hell, even calling it a war is kind of stupid. Especially when there was a real war going on where people are dying. Kind of puts our "war" in perspective.

They were by and large supposed to be neutral forums (not "red" in quotes), weren't they?

No im talking about forums that were "red" and "blue". Obviously if you ONLY support hd dvd, you had no business in the blu ray forums. Same goes for the HD DVD forum subsections, blu people should not have gone in there. AVS had BD and HD forums...separate from each other. Not neutral. So did Highdefdigest. The only one I know of that was "neutral" was dvdtalk. What it all boils down to is this. Whatever people say are just words. Ignore them if you dont like it. Hell, when we are kids we are told " sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me".

For the record, I reposted to agree that this was not a one-sided basing. Both camps attacked each other with the same pointless vigor.

But I just don't get all the HEATED PASSIONED HATRED for the now dead rival format. People are posting all of these taunting messages like HD-DUD is Hitler or something. I always thought BD was a superior format, but I waited on the sidelines until the WB announcement because (like many) I didn't want to own the library full of Betamax tapes Once I took the BD plunge, I jumped in with both feet and have bought over 30 discs in the last month. And I LOVE it.

So yes, I understand wanting to be on "the right side" and not have your investment be a huge mistake, but the intense personal nature and hatred of the other technology, I just don't get... To quote Dr. Evil "It's a fricken laser..."

Just my $.02. Let the flames begin...
Do you follow sports?

Technology fanboyism is no different. Unfortunately, persons on each side personalize the conflict a bit too much resulting in an inability to be rational when discussing the issues at hand. Instead of only talking about pq and compression and 7.1 or 5.1 or internet connectivity, you have ad hominem filled statements that serve only to divide us. Like sports, choosing sides in a conflict can fill the void in some people's lives and allow them to experience success vicariously or feel like a member of a group or family. Without diligent moderation, fanboy jingoism will exceed rational critical discussions. Of course, the forum would be quite boring at that point.

Unfortunately we are not Vulcans, who are vastly superior to any Jedi of any species

Yeah I know, but people were taking it outside of that forum. Often in the BD forum id see hd dvd fanboys, and the reverse in the HD DVD Forum.

I can see all of this in good humor, but I'm sure there are some who are constantly mean spirited. I for one cannot type "Microsoft" as "Micro$oft" (yeah, I just did it, but that was for example only) because it just doesn't feel right to me. In fact, it's rare that I abbreviate "Microsoft" as "MS" because spelling the name out is my way of showing the company respect even though I'm not fond of their monopolistic practices.

What I find funny is that Microsoft is this evil corporation, while the same haters perceive Apple as some holy company. Apple employees almost the same tactics as MS. Buying competitors, putting out hardware that you cannot upgrade, but have to buy a new one the following year. Its like people think its the "IN" thing to hate MS. The only difference is that Apple rips you off with a smile, while MS rips you off with a neutral face.

That principle is why I cannot type "Microsoft" as "Micro$oft". No company is perfect in business tactics. I used it as an example since it seems to be more common in "these" circles.

I always look to see if someone typed "Micro$ux" or "Crapple" or "Para*****" or "HD-DUD" because it instantly tell me that you're dealing with a person who is beyond reason, and lacks the capacity to discuss things rationally.

Good natured ribbing and some heated conversations add flavor from time to time, and for many it feel justified - but it seems like now that the 'war' is over, the blu fanboys seem to be coming out of the woodwork and trying to instigate something just so they have something to fight about (or for).

Yeah, another thing is people complaining about Microsoft purchasing game companies and such. Sony did the same thing in the early years of the PS1. They bought and paid for exclusives, and purchased game developers outright. Im not saying that was wrong, far from it, but people hate Microsoft for doing the same thing today, that Sony did yesterday. The bottom line is, NO COMPANY cares about YOU. They care about profits. Even the mighty Sony. Sorry to burst everyones bubbles, but we are all pawns in companies plans.

Sorry Raine but I gotta call you on on this one. The other difference is that Apple has that cool laid back guy and M$ has that nerdy guy. And I, for one, would much rather hang out with the young hipster than the nerd in the bad suit. So Apple for me!!!

I do think some of the Blu-ray fanboys are trying to find some avenue of venting. And not to get too philosophical, who isn't filled with some kind of anger and hatred in some minute or large degree? I think it's human hature to find something to scream at, and this "format war" gave justification to some.
